The special occasion I celebrated was well recieved at the door by the hostess, who was waiting for the Maitre D to return. We were seated immediately when we arrived 10 mins early. Our server Doug, watched us get seated and gave us a warm welcome. He told us the seasonal specials and also gave his personal recommendations. He was knowledgeable of the menu for pairing and understood our celebration. He was also quite relatable and had positive input. When the entree came out to be presented before plating, it was truly commercial worthy. Happy with the decision made, the nod of approval was given. Everything was cooked to the temperature requested and enjoyed thoroughly.
On the down side, the table was too small to accommodate such large plates and left most of the staff struggling to move and place things properly. The house music was low and the place ended up sounding like a cafeteria instead of a fine dining restaurant.
Putting that aside, the dessert was wonderful and unexpectedly added the perfect ending to our visit. It was my first time in these doors and I would definitely return with friends for another celebration.

Extremely well done very traditional french dishes. I’m surprised I enjoyed everything so much, despite nothing having much of a twist or modern take. Just very strong basics. Had all the highlights: the French onion soup, coq au vin, and a grand Marnier souffle – something so classic I rarely even see it on menus in the US.

Service was wonderfully attentive and the atmosphere was quite a fun vibe. Also one of the best martinis I’ve had in some time. I can see why the original NY location gets so much hype. I will be back.

Excellent food, a bit uneven service, and an energetic atmosphere make Minetta Tavern a great overall NYC export into Union Market.

We enjoyed pretty much everything we tried. My onion soup was like being back in Paris, I savored each bite and sip. The foie gras terrine was good but not remarkable. However, their steak tartare was probably one of the very best versions of that dish I have ever had. Really outstanding. For our mains, the mussels were sublime, another standout dish. The prawn risotto and the butternut squash ravioli were both superb too. The Minetta burger was probably the only real disappointment. It was fine but came out bloody, not medium and didn’t hold together well. They need to up their burger game a bit here in DC. Smoked duck breast was excellent as well, and the trimmings added a lot.

Cocktails were very good overall, nothing I was dying to try again but all solid, no complaints.

Service was friendly but a bit uneven as mentioned. My friend asked for more bread 3x over 30+ minutes before they finally remembered to bring it out. There was also about a 30 min gap between the first course and the second course where our table sat bare (and dirty) during that time. Also an odd moment where one of the servers picked up a clean utensil (thinking it was used I guess?) and then handled it and put it back, not the most hygenic maneuver. I was taught a long time ago serving tables that whatever you pick up from a table, you never put back down. So yeah, service could be better but not enough to make this a 5 star experience.

Great food, great service, and very consistent atmosphere with their other branches!! 🙂

Loved the risotto and the chocolate soufflé the most!!!! Steak was great but not the best I’d say, but still pretty great!!

Love the family style/ feel of the restaurant. Great place to gather with friends and family!!

The best spot in Union Market! We were warmly greeted by the lovely hostess and seated at the far corner table, which was perfect! The dining room is cozy, warm, and the ambience convivial. Our server, Isaac, was highly knowledgeable about the menu and made spot-on recommendations for our wine and food selections. He graciously coursed out our selections, as we shared 3 items on a small table, and the timing was perfect! The seasonal salad was delicious, bread solid, mussels FANTASTIC (the broth should be a soup!), and the half chicken rich and impressively flavorful. It was no surprise when Isaac told us there’s a 3 day process to cook it! After dinner, we headed upstairs to Lucy Mercer for dessert and a nightcap and it was the coolest vibe! Jacquard wallpaper, rich textures and colors everywhere, low lighting, beautiful underlit bar, wood-burning fireplace, and attentive, personal service from Andres and Antoinette made for a luxurious and exclusive experience. We will be back for sure!

We invited our nephew and his girlfriend to brunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We’ve dined at Minetta Tavern many times since it opened and have always enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere, which made this visit especially disappointing.

I ordered the French dip without horseradish. When it finally arrived—about 30 minutes later—it had horseradish on it. The server promptly took it back and assured me a corrected sandwich would be prepared. Unfortunately, the replacement didn’t arrive until roughly 20 minutes later, after my wife and our guests had already finished their meals.

To make matters worse, the second sandwich was quite poor. The meat was dry, and I ended up eating only half of it.

When we returned home, I sent a private message to management through OpenTable but received no response. Two weeks later, I sent the same message directly to Minetta Tavern via email and again received no reply.

We have genuinely enjoyed Minetta Tavern’s food, atmosphere, and service on prior visits, which makes the lack of response all the more disappointing. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t take the time to acknowledge or address our concerns.

I went there for the first time this weekend to celebrate a special occasion. I love French food and was excited to try this place. The waitress wasn’t rude but wasn’t warm or friendly – it was like she was a little depressed. The food was basic at best. It wasn’t flavorful but it was salty and over sauced – like they were trying to cover up the food. I ordered a steak cooked medium temperature and the middle was blood red /raw and the meat was tough- it seemed as if it was cooked while it was too cold or perhaps frozen. The presentation was basic -just a hunk of meat on a plate with a lot of pepper sauce poured over it. My friend ordered the fish which was a whole fish, again just on a plate and it was very salty. Luckily she ordered the sauce on the side The atmosphere is dark but not unpleasant and to echo other reviews, the tables are small. So small that I ended up putting half of our order on the empty table next to us. It was my birthday which the host acknowledged when I arrived but there was no complimentary cookie or something and when we ordered desert, there was also not a candle or a simple acknowledgment of any kind from our very sad waitress. A group of friends wanted to go there for their book club and I suggested that they try someplace else. This place needs a new chef – it definitely does not meet all of the hype, especially for the price.

Stopped by Minetta for brunch with friends and had a decent experience. The ambiance was nice and welcoming, with a beautiful space – especially the back dining area, even thought it felt a bit tight and cozy at times. I also really appreciated the full bar and seating along the walls once you walk in.

I had the deviled eggs and the eggs benedict. Both were fine, but nothing that particularly stood out. My friends had the burger and seemed to really enjoy it, so i’ll definitely plan to return and give it a try.

The service was a bit hit or miss – our server seemed awkward at times which impacted our overall experience. I think they just started offering brunch and were working out kinks so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Overall, Minetta has a lot of potential and I would return especially to try the burger, the dinner menu and for their drinks in their cool upstairs bar.

Tried Minetta for the first time this evening. The ambiance of the restaurant is amazing – it’s stunning inside and is great for a romantic night out.

Tried the croquettes, burger, and the apple tart. The croquettes and tart were both tasty; the burger was solid, but unevenly cooked (some parts medium rare as requested, other parts inexplicably well, well done). But overall, a solid meal.

Would come back for drinks and maybe try brunch.

The food is amazing…we’ll get back to that.
The Service is brilliant.
The drinks are brilliant.
The wine list is well manicured with appropriate wine by the glass options.

For my 22 years in the District there were few restaurants that could pull the trifecta of drinks, service and kitchen…Minetta hits all of them and then foot stomps with a souffle that kills.

Get the Risotto. I asked for a starter portion and the Chef delivered…thank you Chef, because it was the best seafood risotto I have ever eaten.

We spoke to the couples seated on either side of us, and each person had a different entree prepared beautifully and which tasted delightful.

The service was perfect. The teamwork is impressive. The timing is flawless. The pace is easy without ever slowing. Water filled. Drinks refreshed. Wine poured when it should.

Did you not order the souffle? Go back and make amends.

Well priced for the quality, service and atmosphere. After dinner visit the sexiest bar in DC, just up a flight of stairs.

Best whole-restaurant experience in DC. [Mic Drop]
