Most of the pieces were easy to sourced fish, some of the combinations was interesting but the portions was too small.
Do not come if you are 2+ people, you will not be able to sit at the counter. For $800 price point it would’ve been way better to get 3 amazing meals elsewhere.
As expected for the price point, the produce is impeccably sourced and of the highest quality. We indulged in the full Omakase course, adding two exquisite à la carte items: the Gold Leaf Maguro Maki and the Lobster Tempura. We thoroughly enjoyed nearly every piece and dish. While some reviews suggest the Omakase course isn’t filling, we left the evening feeling perfectly satisfied and very full.
What truly elevates this restaurant is the magnificent service. Our server was nothing short of brilliant. My glass of water was never allowed to be half-empty; the waitress was so attentive that she would quietly replenish it after every sip. It’s this level of unerring, preemptive care that defines a truly exceptional Japanese dining experience.
The omakase experience at Minamishima is nothing short of exceptional. Each course is crafted with incredible skill, showcasing the freshest ingredients and masterful technique. The flavours are delicate, balanced, and unforgettable. Every bite feels like a work of art — beautifully presented and bursting with refined taste.
The chefs are true professionals who put passion into every dish. Their explanations of each course add an educational and personal touch to the meal. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and gracious, making you feel valued and welcomed throughout the evening.
I’ve been lucky enough to try six different omakase restaurants this winter, and Minamishima has earned a spot in my top 5. The seasonal ingredients, creativity, and flawless execution make every dish worth savoring and every cent well spent.
If you love sushi or omakase, this is one of those restaurants you have to try at least once. Highly recommend!
I was also blown away by how frindly Minamishima-san was, coming over for a chat and enjoying a sake with us. ありがとうございました
✨ Every dish was beautifully prepared and thoughtfully presented – each course felt like a journey of flavours
The service was excellent, and the attention to detail along with the explanation of each dish really added to the experience
It is a great spot for a special night out. The price is reasonable for the quality and creativity offered. Definitely recommend if you are looking to treat yourself to an authentic Japanese omakase in Melbourne
With a restaurant of this calibre, impeccable food is a given. The sushi was exceptional. What truly set the experience apart, though, was the attention to detail. From the precision of the rice, to how and when drinks were offered, to the quiet awareness of whether your glass needed refilling, sometimes simply from the way it was placed, every detail felt considered.
The service struck a perfect balance. It was attentive without being intrusive. The pacing of the meal, the moments when the chefs spoke to you, and the way each piece of sushi was presented created a sense that the entire experience had been thoughtfully designed. Even though there were many guests that evening, we never once felt like just another table. It genuinely felt personal from beginning to end.
I have had a lot of great sushi over the years, but experiences like this are rare. If you are celebrating a special occasion, or simply want to experience sushi prepared by chefs who clearly treat their craft as an art form, I could not recommend Minamishima more highly.
