Evoking memories of bountiful “Sunday Suppers” where families gathered around the table to share recipes passed down from generation to generation, Millie’s Old World Meatballs & Pizza is bringing that same convivial feeling of a close knit Italian family to everyone. Millie’s is a restaurant rooted in one family’s commitment to preserving the “Old World” in terms of recipes and traditions but steps into the “New World” with modern ambiance and décor. Named after their grandmother Millie, the restaurant is the brainchild of two brothers seeking to share their passion for Italian food and celebration of the Italian culture of their heritage.
Chill, industrial BYOB joint with coal- & wood-fired Neapolitan pies, plus a fried meatball station.

At their most basic, they consist of ground meat (one or more varieties) rolled into a ball or oblong shape and can be found, with wild variation, around the globe. They are bound together with a little egg, milk, and perhaps breadcrumbs with some herbs and spices added to the mix.
Located on a busy South Street in the heart of Morristown, my partner and I decided on dinner last night at Millie’s Old World Meatballs and Pizza, named after the owners’ grandmother, before the Mayo show. The location was ideal just a block away. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable.
Upon arrival as first-timers, we were greeted by the staff and got a table inside the main dining room evoking modern Italy with an open kitchen, brick walls, chic red and black accents, and ambient electro music. Weather permitting, their loft-style garage door opens to the sidewalk for outdoors dining.
Their menu features their specialties … meatballs with both coal-fired and Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas as well as other traditional Italian recipes, which are fairly extensive.
We decided on the Fettuccine Tartufo and a small Coal Fired Millie’s Meatball Parmesan Pie. The food took some time, but we knew they were made with the finest ingredients and were absolutely delicious. The pizza was made from scratch, loaded with decent meatball slices, and had the right consistency where the crust was crispy and not burnt. Each dish on every table looked fantastic. We saved some room for dessert and shared their homemade Tres Leches cake. It was light, moist, and just the right level of sweetness.
A little pricey across the board, but one can tell everything was made fresh. Our server was very pleasant.
A perfect ending to an outstanding dinner, and our bellies approved. Definitely worth coming back for more than just meatballs and pizzas.
Even though Millie’s doesn’t serve alcohol, there’s a liquor store right next door, so we picked up a nice bottle of red wine. The staff had wine glasses and a corkscrew ready for us. It was a thoughtful touch!
I ordered the Meatballs with Ricotta in Vodka Sauce, while my friends had the Meatballs with Fresh Mozzarella in Vodka Sauce sandwich. They loved how they hollowed out the bread and filled it with the meatballs. We also shared a fresh salad, and everything was delicious, served promptly, and beautifully presented.
Even though we arrived close to closing time, the staff was welcoming, attentive, and never made us feel rushed. It was the perfect way to end an unexpected evening. Highly recommend!
We will definitely come back to try more pizzas and meals, and I’d love to do a girls’ night pizza making class!
Unfortunately, the restaurant was severely understaffed. We arrived right as a rush began, and aside from the host, who appeared to be seating tables and serving, there were very few staff members on the floor. We waited about 20 minutes before our order was taken and repeatedly had to ask for water and bread, which should be standard at an Italian restaurant.
The food was a mixed experience. I highly recommend the meatballs and the eggplant parmesan platter—both were flavorful and well prepared. The marinara sauce was especially delicious. However, the oysters were a disappointment: overly salty and heavily seasoned, lacking the clean, briny taste you’d expect. The pizza and salads were just okay and seemed to be missing the shaved Parmesan listed on the menu.
We were a group of five sharing multiple dishes, and although the server was aware of this, no serving utensils were provided. The server also did not check on us during the meal at all—only to take our order and later collect payment. It was difficult to get anyone’s attention throughout the evening.
Overall, due to the poor service and menu inconsistencies, I unfortunately would not return, despite some standout dishes.
