We had a fantastic experience at Miller & Carter Steakhouse in Colchester. We’ve been here several times before, and again from start to finish everything was spot on as usual. The food was excellent — the steaks were cooked perfectly, the sides were full of flavour, and the half rack of ribs was absolutely superb, easily a highlight of the meal.

The desserts were also just as impressive as always, beautifully presented and the perfect way to finish off an already amazing meal.

A special mention has to go to Jodie, who looked after us so well. She was incredibly friendly, polite, and attentive, which really added to the overall experience.

So, to finish, great food, great service, and a lovely atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back again soon and would happily recommend this place to anyone looking for a top-quality meaty meal.

We had Jodie as our server. She was attentive and efficient even though she was rushed off her feet. A credit to the company. Food was absolutely amazing as always. We had the Sunday sharing platter which was superb. Unlimited veg and gravy. Well worth the money.

The food was really nice, great variety nd decent portions. We were served by Phoebe who was very proactive and kind, and was all over the place but made a lot of time for us. Orla was was also really lovely and made great conversation even in the closing hours of the day.
I would probably say maybe make the Sticky toffee pudding portions a little bit bigger, but maybe I’m just a Gluttonous Gilbert.

Had a wonderful time, having lunch with my sister.
The waiter was very on the ball, with plates, ordering and cutlery, he very friendly and chatty and having a laugh with us.
The wine was delightful and the food, well, it was the same top quality you always get from Miller & Carter, absolutely wonderful time.

We pre booked for 1:15 arrived at 12:30 which was no trouble what so ever. Front of house member of staff hugely welcoming good chat. We were looked after by Phoebe she was attentive, and knowledgeable. Asking about allergies explaining their practices in the kitchen to ensure they are followed. Decor was very smart, our food and drinks were brilliant and well priced. The beef dripping gravy was out of this world. Honestly can’t wait to come back here.

I am never going back again to this place. They ruined my new year and my girls birthday. The managers and the staffs are so disrespectful. This people are RACIST!!!. We were the only black couple there. We arrived and there was no prosecco on arrival as the menu stated. I had to ask to the waiter where the prosecco was, and some other customers also complained about not getting the prosecco on arrival. We got the prosecco after our mains had been served. We ordered a bottle of Moët but they served us a different champagne less costly. The waiter never informed us that they had ran out as he stated although we saw bottles of Moet at the bar. We asked for water on arrival and only received water after asking twice and by this time we had already received our “moet”. This was the first time I see a restaurant trying to trick customers because they are black. After realizing that all the customers had ordered Moet but our bottle was different we notified the waiter to what happened. He went to see the manager. She didn’t even bother to come to our table to apologize for all what happened. Instead she was there sipping her wine while we were complaining and didn’t even finish our food because of the experience. We didn’t even finish our mains and our champagne. She decided just to remove 10£ for the “mistake” , lol ? . They even charged us for desert that we did not have. Bear in mind a few seconds prior one customer got the right bottle of Moet. Never in my life have I being so much disrespected. They ruined my girls birthday, my new year and everything. I’ll not recommend. It is not a fine dining experience.

Disappointing Experience at Miller & Carter Colchester

I’ve dined at several Miller & Carter restaurants before and always had a great experience, which is why I chose to make a reservation for a group of six at the Colchester branch. Unfortunately, this visit fell short of expectations.

Despite arriving on time, our table wasn’t ready we waited 10 minutes to be seated, followed by another 10minute wait before anyone came to take our order. The restaurant was understandably busy, but the lack of acknowledgment made the delay more noticeable.

Our waitress appeared visibly unhappy and unfortunately not very approachable. When I requested a steak sauce, specifically mushroom, I was told quite bluntly that it wasn’t on the menu despite having ordered it at other Miller & Carter locations. The overall attitude made my guests feel uncomfortable asking for anything else. At no point during the meal did anyone check in to see if we were okay or needed anything further, which is a basic standard of service, especially in a steakhouse known for its hospitality.

While the food itself was fine, the customer service left a lot to be desired. The table we were seated at was still wet and not properly cleaned again, likely due to how busy it was, but it points to a lack of readiness and attention to detail.

I understand that high footfall can be demanding, but that’s exactly why staff training and morale are so important. Friendly, attentive service should remain a top priority, regardless of how busy the venue is. I really hope this location takes steps to improve the customer experience, as Miller & Carter is generally known for high standards this visit sadly didn’t reflect that.

We had a large (15 people) meal here last night. The service was absolutely top tier, couldn’t fault it at all. Everything was served quickly and without fault. And the food was very good, all of the steaks were cooked to perfection and the portion sizes were great. Will definitely be returning. Highly recommend the banoffee pie, it was one of the best I’ve ever tried. 10/10 experience.
