Finally made it to Mike’s Ellijay Restaurant—we shouldn’t have waited so long. We don’t eat out much, and wherever we go, we are pretty particular about the food and service. Mike’s scored high in both those categories.
I had the Hamburger Steak with a “smashed potato” and baked apples, and my wife had the Fried Tilapia with green beans and cole slaw. Our waitress, Ashlyn, was very attentive and prompt, refilling our drinks and ensuring we were satisfied with the food and the presentation. Two Busboys kept the tables cleaned and neat.
The Tilapia covered 2/3 of the plate and my wife enjoyed the fish and the sides. One of the reasons I ordered the Hamburger Steak was because it is a true test of a kitchen’s expertise. For the most part, a Hamburger Steak is served either on the greasy side, often to disguise the taste of substandard meat, or on the dry side, usually because the meat is not “conditioned”, overcooked or again, because the meat is substandard. The Hamburger Steak at Mike’s was cooked perfectly and the meat was full-bodied and very tasty. Eat one of these at Mike’s and say goodbye to any kind of fast food burger. As a plus, the baked apples were just right, and the sweetened iced tea was exactly what Southern Iced Tea is all about—just sweet enough to enhance, not overpower, the taste of the tea.
We’re going back!

This place is an amazing country style restaurant. Everything we tried was about the best we’ve ever had.
The catfish, the country fried steak, the pineapple casserole, the hash brown casserole, the Mac and cheese.
We were flabbergasted on just how good everything is.

A nice little mom and pop feeling diner. We stopped in for breakfast. Excellent, friendly service. Slightly slow in the kitchen, but it was worth the wait. The food was excellent. I’d definitely go again!

Service was good, sweet tea was good but the food was lacking. I had whole catfish, fried squash and green beans. Out of those dishes you wouldn’t expect the green beans to be the better thing on the plate…but it was. Was so looking forward to the fried squash. And I never leave food on my plate. But my wife and I both left most of the squash uneaten. Pretty sure it was frozen, pre battered. Mushy and not good. Granddaughter got the chicken fingers which were probably the best choice out of our table of 6.

Food is below average except for breakfast… can’t mess it up… other meals are frozen meat. Service ladies are very nice. Atmosphere is good. You can tell that they have regular crowd.

Wheww the breakfast is so darn good! Just good ol southern food. Especially the biscuits & pancakes — we had to order more. Only thing I will point out is we did get alot of stares ( we were the only blacks inside) and our waitress did not seem friendly or even care to check up on our table.

This is gonna get an average three star in the middle review so they do not have a website or any type of way to really know like cutoff times for stuff came here for breakfast. They stopped serving, but the photos that I was able to find online do not indicate a time to cut off for breakfast. I did see that dinner time on their dinner menu. This is a suggestion for the business. This is 2025. We’re almost to 2026. It would be a good thing to utilize free platforms to get online to be able to post things like this for your customers. I will also disclose that I did not eat here. Came here for breakfast not for lunch. If I get to try the food again I will update that part.

If the business would like help with doing something online, I would be glad to help them out for free.

This was our first trip to Mikes, and it didn’t disappoint. Pancakes and biscuits and gravy were some of the best we have ever had. Service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Our first trip but definitely not our last.

All the food was tasty and hot! I had the country-fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans, he had fried catfish, smashed potatoes and green beans. We had biscuit-type rolls and corn bread, both good. His came with hushpuppies, which were my favorite. I would go again to try the fried pork chops! All in all it came to $30.17 plus tip.

One of the only non chain restaurants in the area. The service was pleasant, although food was a little slower than I expected. Maybe I was just hungry. The specials for the day were on the board and there were several options. Fries fish was pretty good, Hamburger steak seemed to be pre made patty without much substance. The gravy for the Hamburger steak was also from a pack or can, too smooth to be made in home. Butterbeans has a weird, almost bitter aftertaste, fried Okra was very well done. Bannana pudding was served warm.
From my perspective, it’s a decent place, but nothing special.
