We got a rib combo plate to go and did the brisket add on. Everything tasted good and although the spicy and sweet BBQ sauces taste nearly identical they were both tasty. portions were great. One combo plate fed my wife and I. We also added a cornbread with Honey Butter wich was worth it as well. My main complaint is the brisket was just shredded meat and there was no option of getting it sliced and they didn’t state otherwise. We paid additional for it and it was a bit of a let down.

Shared the tri-tip combo and added on some brisket with a side of mac and cheese and greens. Drinks were Chamango Margarita and an Arnold Palmer. Excellent service from Nicole. This is an authentic bbq place. Everything was on point. Definitely will go back.

1 word: DRY

The sides were good and the flavor profile was spot on, but the meet was bone dry and hard to eat. I got the sampler which comes with a beef rib, a 1/4 chicken, and some baby back ribs. I got the mash potatoes and slaw as my sides. The gravy and potatoes were fine, if a bit basic. The cole slaw was your basic slaw but good.

The meat though… The chicken was inedible. I had to go for my drink just to swallow it down.

The server was very attentive and the atmosphere is nice with big screens around the whole place.

To be fair, we got there at like 630 on a Monday when they close at 8. Maybe if you get there earlier in the day the meat will be better. But for the prices they charge (my sampler was over $30) I probably won’t risk it. Go a few miles down the 15 to Phil’s instead.

Don’t believe what the negative reviews say, if JC is in the house you will have a blast! Food is delish, atmosphere is amazing. They are closed on Tuesdays though, the day we usually want to come here the most, regardless of that, 5* across the board!!!

Mike’s BBQ is a must-stop for me every time I’m in California. The ribs are smoky, tender, and packed with flavor, and the sides hit just as hard (the mac and cheese is a favorite). Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the staff makes you feel right at home. Consistently great every visit — can’t recommend it enough

By far the best meat and BBQ I’ve had in San Diego. They know how to smoke – pulled pork so tender, great bbq chicken, and tri tip. The choice of bread on the sandwiches is awesome, love the brioche.

Both sauces are tasty, sweet and spicy. We did a big order for Xmas and got to try all of their sides. Cole slaw, mac n cheese, beans, street corn – all winners.

I’ve been there about five times in the past few months, servers are great, Nicole is especially good at juggling orders.

This is essentially a sports bar, huge TVs and game noise. So not a place for quiet conversations. Big games, it’s packed, loud, and can be a bit slow – so get an appetizer and drink and enjoy yourself. 🙂 We do. And we LOVE this place. Excellent food.

I was first here back on 05/22/2022. The day my only son was born. I recently stopped by and had 3 sliders. Brisket, Tri-tip and pulled pork. All three were delicious. Juan Carlos was a great host and treated me like family. The place is dark inside , but I liked it.
I’ll definitely will be back and I will always remember this place when my son was being figuratively being born. I also enjoyed watching the photo shoot outside and got a free key chain. I couldn’t take pictures today ☹️.

This review is for the category of top tier BBQ. Based on the prices, Mike’s endeavors to be top notch. We sampled quite a few items. The place is set in a strip mall, kind of a sports bar feel. Lots of giant TV screens everywhere and kinda loud with many games playing. Full bar, though we did not drink. The best thing was the service, which was very excellent from our server to the hostess, all top notch. The meats are served on a personal size metal tray, with a paper liner, which i cut through almost immediately to be eating off the tray, yech. The mac and cheese was outstanding, topped with crumbled cheese-itz for a surprising twist. Mashed potatoes were okay, the clear gravy was more like weak chicken stock, would have preferred a brown gravy to go with the meat. The corn on the cob was amazing. House made creamed horseradish was superb. The baby backed ribs came cold and needed to be refired. 2nd try at ribs, they were tender and flavorful 7 out of 10. The beef ribs were much smaller than I expected, but ok for the price. Kinda tough and not a lot of flavor. 6 out of 10. The brisket was rather fatty, like warm and bland. Reminded me of boiled corned beef without the flavor. Though super tender and went well with the horseradish and BBQ sauce 6 out of 10. Tri tip came ice cold and was sent back. 2nd try the top was hot, lower slices were cold. Very smoky flavor, nice if you like that. Tender and cooked nicely. 6 out of 10. The spicy saussage was outstanding, cooked well, hot, flavorful and juicy 9 out of 10. We did not have chicken. Ended up with a large take home container which is rare for us at a BBQ. Kinda lost interest in the food. Would have been 3 stars for this category, but gave an extra star for superb service. Might go back again, but it will be a while. $90 to feed 2 with no alcohol. Definitely a good restaurant, but today it was only okay in execution.

I hate leaving negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with Mike’s Barbecue. These were honestly some of the worst ribs I’ve ever had. The sauce was way too thick, more like a paste and they put so much of it that it completely overpowered the meat.

We also ordered sides and none of them hit. The greens tasted like they came straight out of a can with no seasoning at all. The mac and cheese was even worse it looked like they just crumbled cheezits on top instead of making it creamy, and it honestly tasted disgusting.

Overall, the food didn’t taste fresh and everything was just kind of warm, like it had been sitting. I was very underwhelmed, especially considering how highly rated this place is online. Definitely didn’t match the hype for us.
