Over 100 years ago, Jesucita Mijares fled the revolution in Mexico in search of a new life for her family. After settling in Pasadena, she opened a small tortilla factory & established her restaurant, featuring her original recipes. Her tamales & salsas are still made with our volcanic Molino! Mijares Restaurant remains Pasadena’s oldest and finest Mexican restaurant, serving authentic Mexican cuisine & award winning Margaritas. Our restaurant features festive indoor & patio dining with a historic banquet facility where Jesucita lived. Today, Mijares remains under the care of the her daughter Alice & three generations of family. In honor of our matriarch, we uphold her famous motto Mi casa es su casa! Welcome to Mijares!

Tacos, tostadas & other Mexican dishes, plus margaritas, served in a simple, family-friendly space.

What a fun evening! We came here as a group of 10 for dinner, and the place was absolutely buzzing. The atmosphere is warm and colorful with authentic Mexican décor, charming chandeliers, and a large open patio filled with plants perfect for a lively evening or a casual family meal.

The staff was friendly and handled our big group with ease. Our table enjoyed chips, salsa, and a fresh tableside guacamole prepared right in front of us definitely a highlight! The drinks kept coming too from skinny margaritas to piña coladas festive and refreshing.

The food portions were generous (we tried the beef & shrimp fajitas and burritos), though the flavors could use a bit more punch. Still, the overall experience was authentic and welcoming, true to a Pasadena landmark that’s been around for over a century. ️

✅ Accessible parking and restrooms
✅ Large indoor & outdoor seating
✅ Great for groups and celebrations

If you’re looking for a classic local spot with old-school Mexican charm and friendly service, Mijares is worth a visit.

After an appointment, I decided to go to my local authentic Mexican restaurant, Mijares, for lunch.
I am a creature of habit sometimes. I remember how much I liked their chicken quesadillas with green tomatillo sauce in the past. I can’t eat hot spicy food anymore. I ordered a plate of two with the sides of rice and beans. And to drink I had Jamaica.

This is the second time I noticed that the chicken was not inside of the enchiladas but on the top. It was shredded chicken on top, kind of unusual. All other places have the chicken inside which makes the enchiladas more flavorful. It felt like I was having cheese enchiladas.
The Jamaica drink was very weak and tasted watered down. I didn’t even finish it.
One thing I really enjoyed was the salsa that came with the chips. It was so tasty and not spicy at all. I loved it! I could taste the oregano.
I was never asked if I needed anything else.
Is it me or have they changed their ways of preparing the quesadilla?
I love the feel and vibe of the place; you have the option to sit outside in the patio. I really having been longing for Mijares and I felt a bit disappointed.

It’s loud because everyone is having so much good food and fun. The staff was quick and did not skimp on the chips, salsa or drink refills . It’s been a while since I had good mole sauce . I loved their albondingas soup . Hot and comforting .

Mijares Mexican Restaurant – Comfort Food & Great Service

Stopped in at Mijares Mexican Restaurant and went for the classic: cheese enchiladas. They were tasty, not spicy (a relief for those of us who think “mild salsa” is already walking on the wild side), and came as a generous portion with rice and beans. Definitely filling and satisfying.

One of my friends is vegetarian and had some special requests. Even though what she wanted wasn’t technically on the menu, our waitress went above and beyond to help her put together exactly the dish she was craving. That kind of flexibility and friendliness makes a huge difference.

Overall, the service was excellent, the food was solid, and it’s a place I’d happily return to for a comforting, no-fuss meal.

I was heading to another bar and wanted to try this place out first. I drank some beers, ate some complementary salsa (the chips were really good!), and watched some sports. The place was pretty packed; the private room was occupied.

The service was great. They were efficient even when it was a packed house.

They have a good size parking lot. You can park in the neighborhood for free also.

I wanted so much to love this place as they’ve a really nice atmosphere and large selection of food. Plenty of seating with a great patio. Margaritas were fabulous. But, the food from the salsa to the entrees was bland. Mild to no flavor and absolutely NO HEAT to speak of. Our entrees included nachos, enchilada, tacos, refried beans and rice.

Enjoyed the historic and traditional value of the decor and ambiance. The menu seemed busy and chaotic to a first timer. Lots to look over. Food wasn’t terrible but the quality was off for the price point. In addition their frozen margs were pretty awful and awfully expensive at $15/each. Basically all sugary and frothy. Avoid those if possible.

Always a pleasure attending functions at Mijares. The atmosphere is beautiful and well crafted. The staff are professional and diligent to serve from small groups or large receptions.
The food is Mijares-level cuisine- that seems to be a standard amongst several circles of acquaintances… other establishments are assessed to the Mijares level and rated accordingly. Mijares seems to have become a benchmark.
The menu is good and the dishes more than agreeable. Seating is limited most all the time, but that’s due to the popularity.

Saw this place listed on Happy Hopper and decided to head out and have a margarita that the reviews raved about.

I walked up to the door and didn’t see anyone at the front so I waited a bit. There were two men talking and I made eye contact with one of them. I figured I’ll step inside a bit to be seen. Still nothing. The two men continued talking.

It’s been about 3ish minutes already. Four people come in and IMMEDIATELY one of the two guys goes and greets them. They nicely pointed out to him that I was here first. And this guy’s response? “I’ll get to you in a minute” and continues seating them. I should have walked out at that point. This dude saw me walk up AND walk in and completely ignored me.

Whatever fine. I still wanted that happy hour. Unfortunately, happy hour is only offered in the bar area and I had my dog. I believe there is a patio that’s adjacent to the bar but it was not set up.

I still got to enjoy a margarita and chips. The margarita was delicious! ($15 skinny Marg)

I ordered a bean and cheese burrito ($10.50) and it was a great size but the beans lacked flavor. I believe if a Mexican restaurants beans are not good then the other food is not good. Therefore I did not try anything else.

I ordered limes and got the driest limes ever. These things have been sitting out for days because the pulp crumbled when I squeezed them. (See photo)

Bad experience all around. My water was awesome but the damage was done. Never again.

I hosted my mom’s 70th birthday party at Mijares in the banquet room and everything was awesome! The staff was attentive and all the guests were super happy with food, drinks, and atmosphere. Definitely great spot to host a smaller event (under 100 guests). Parking can get a bit hectic but street parking is pretty easy.
