Go to Velt Deli for sandwiches! The change is evident! This place has always been wonderful, always. I’ve been here since I was a kid. Great food, great sandwiches. Today I bought 2 sandwiches, both heroes. A grilled chicken sandwich and a chopped cheese. I TOLD the guy on the phone “please make the grill chicken sandwich with everything, ketchup, mayo, salt, pepper” he said alright multiple times. For the chopped cheese, I requested that they put a lot of cheese on it, extra. He said okay. First of all, their grilled chicken sandwich has gone downhill, or maybe it’s the person making it today. Not too long ago, like last year, I was able to get the GC sandwich stuffed with chicken, cheese, and the delicious sauce they put on it. Today? They skimped out on the cheese, no sauce, and no ketchup despite me asking for some. It tasted like something I could make at home. This used to be hands down the best grilled chicken sandwich I’ve EVER had and I used to tell that to everyone, but the quality has definitely gone downhill. As for the chopped cheese, I ask for extra cheese because I know delis usually put little. Remember, he told me “okay” when I requested it. I open the sandwich and like usual, barely any cheese. I’m basically eating a steak sandwich with maybe one slice of cheese on each half. Disappointed, I call them. I tell the guy on the phone, calmly and respectfully (IN SPANISH, so I know he understood me) that I asked for extra cheese and barely got any on my sandwich. He says something that I don’t understand, then the call goes silent. I sit there for a few minutes saying “hello? Hello?” Nothing. Then the call hangs up. I try calling back, but I get an error. I believe they have blocked my number.
Absolutely ridiculous. As someone who has been eating here for years and spreading the name of this establishment and their delicious food, I’m really disappointed at the quality of service the staff has shown today. To get blocked after a single call letting them know my sandwich didn’t have extra cheese?? After years of service?? Ridiculous! I’m still going to keep trying this place as I genuinely believe that it was simply a matter of the staff that was in today (both front-end and back end), but I just had to give my two cents now that they’ve blocked my number and I can’t call to resolve this. This review is the only way I know how to make a complaint because I do not want to walk back without knowing that I could get it resolved in-person (that’s why I made the call to begin with. This bad review could have been avoided). The guy at the counter was a light skin older man, no hair, missing a few teeth. I didn’t get a look at the kitchen staff. Terrible service today. Awful. Especially for $10 each sandwich. Prices went up, quality of both the food and staff went down. Only getting two stars and not one for all the other good years of service. I will update this review if they care enough to reply to me or reach out with a resolution for this matter, considering they blocked my number. Still, ridiculous that they did that.
While this place’s skill for Hispanic food remains undisputed, if you’re getting a sandwich go to Velt deli. It’s literally on the same sidewalk as this place. Once again, if they reach out to resolve this, I will change this review.

I love Midway Deli their food is excellent, very tasty. I especially love their chicken gizzard. One of the best deli to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is delicious and they serve a variety of foods. They are at 124 Nassau Rd in Roosevelt. I highly recommend them.
