We were there Sat just as the Seafood Festival was drawing to an end. Most places were closed, but Midtown was still serving. We should have left when I saw the issues other patrons were having: long waits, very small portions (to which they added more after the patron complained and wanted a refund, another patron who order 12 oysters and got 9, and so on. The lady at the counter saw my face and explained that they are always slow; we stuck around and ordered two of the crab boils ($35 ea). She told me that they were out of some things, but they would add more crab to the meal. I was fine with that bc I love crab. We waited. While waiting we heard the managers/owners (not sure) whispering amongst themselves about different items that they were running out of. At one point one of the kitchen workers came out and complained of not having sausage and boiled eggs for the seafood boils. Finally on our order…I think.Things week missing. The lady gave me a fork and told me to check. When I did and began naming missing items(corn, sausage…), she said that it wasn’t mine and passed it along to another gentleman. I felt horrible. I had just poked around in this man’s food. I hadn’t touched anything with my bare hands, but still. How unsanitary! Anyway, I waited a bit more, our food came, I checked the containers, and everything was there. We left. As I exited I noticed a few woman considering stopping and I told them to keep going. Just keep going and find something else. I wish someone had offered me the same courtesy.
At home, I popped off the first small crab leg and muttered to my husband that this didn’t smell right. It wasn’t crabby and it wasn’t fishy; that would be normal. This was bad! He sniffed and recoiled. Never had we ever smelled this odor, but we knew it was bad crab. I immediately looked up Midtown Cafe, but there was no number listed. With so much trouble they had I believe they knew that they were serving bad…old crab, but didn’t want to miss any sells. I saved the food to return it the following day, but figured they’d say it was old bc I’d waited till the night had passed and THAT was the reason for the crab going bad. I am disgusted? I paid a hefty price, but learned my lesson. I will NEVER visit this place again. Beware!
Definitely coming back here and would be leaving a second review later …
