And a lot of fun and interesting things to try and surprisingly cheap for the quality of everything.
The tempura vegetables were our favorite!
The server didn’t seem to give a damn that we were there, and at least 20 minutes went by without a check-in. They also argued with my boyfriend that “old fashioned cocktails don’t traditionally come with cherries” when he asked for one, which is straight up incorrect. My Manhattan was mostly vermouth, at least that’s what it tasted like.
Sadly, the food also sucked. It was not worth the $140+ we paid for it. The griddled bread was *okay* (woo), the petit steak filet was undercooked/still mooing, and the baked Alaska didn’t even come with a cherry on top. The fried smelts were mostly breading, as were the potato croquettes. We also had the bok choi salad and the meat plate; unfortunately, I’ve had better at Kanji and Oktoberfest for half the price. I don’t know if the chef working on New Year’s Eve was a backup or what, but we were completely underwhelmed by this experience. It was so disappointing, as it was supposed to be a treat for ringing in the new year.
What gives, Mid City? Get your act together.
This was our first time at Mid City restaurant and honestly we were blown away. The flavors of all the dishes were really unique and full of flavor. It’s hard for us to decide which dishes were our favorites. Everything was awesome.
We were only a party of two and they were able to seat us easily. However, I would say that if you have a bigger group to make a reservation ahead of time.
We ordered the asparagus salad with Roe, bok Choy, fried sandwich, petite steak, chicken skewer, shrimp skewer and the Baked Alaska. If I had to pick a top three, order the petite steak, asparagus salad and Baked Alaska.
Our server was excellent. He was attentive and quick. The entire staff was great. They were all openly helping each other and getting food out of the kitchen at great rates.
The bar selection was well done. The listed cocktails were heavily influenced by the classics. I’m sure the bartender could have made most things that cross you mind.
The menu was wildly varied. Instead of having a set theme, instead, the theme seemed to be upscale comfort food. The potato casserole reminded me of of my Midwest roots while the mushrooms had an Asian influence.
The dishes ranges from ehhh too amazing. The shrimp aspic was a miss for me. The potato casserole, mushrooms, and baked Alaska were the stars.
For 6 courses, a cocktail, a beer, and a tip, our bill was $85. The value here is fantastic. I was fully expecting to spend closer to the $120 range. With a little refinement, this could truly be a special restaurant.
Update 1: Had early dinner before it got busy. Dining room is very nice. Good music playlist, too.
Enjoyed delicious meatball skewer and fried sandwich. The “phony negroni” mocktail was also good / tastes like the real thing.

Quick bite place, got two appetizers for dinner at the bar and was in & out in under 20 minutes.
The menu has traditional as well as unique dishes,. For example, I ordered a couple of small plates at the bar: the chicken heart skewer and the fried smelts (three small fish).
Both were good. I only had water, but I can confirm their drink list looks solid.
