This is a very cool place. It has the old time feel like you step back in time as soon as you walk through the door. They have excellent fried chicken, and the sides could be a meal in themselves. The food is buffet style, but the waiters are willing to assist and get you seconds if needed. If you go, be hungry and patient cause the food is good, but the lines can get long. Especially if there are tour groups stooping in. The Tavern is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

More than a meal, an experience! Limited menu but everything is great. First helping is buffet, 2nd helpings are brought to you by servers who are always checking on you. Clean restrooms, plenty of parking, great gift shops and other historical buildings on site. Great stop just off I-64 or on the way to/from Monticello. $24.95 per adult plus drinks and desserts.

Very historical place to dine. Love the antique touch. It is a buffet place with super healthy and delicious traditional food offerings (including the fried chicken, roasted chicken, Cole slaw, soup and etc). Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The scotch John ice cream might be one of the best ice cream I have ever had!

Beautiful area and nice atmosphere with very friendly hosts and wait staff. As other reviews state, this is a 1-plate buffet style service with additional servings provided directly to your table. The food is a good representation of traditional southern fare. The stewed tomatoes are sweetened, pretty traditional for central VA. The fried chicken is done quite well with a very crispy crust, juicy meat that is cooked through without being over done. All of the sides and desserts were very good. We enjoyed the experience and liked the food with a nice walk through the adjacent shops and chatting with the staff.
