Shrinkflation hitting another beloved establishment. It’s been a slow creep as we have ordered lunch from here over many years but now it’s hard to deny. The once $11 sandwich is now $13.50 and it comes with half the meat. Don’t get me wrong. You get a lot of bread and a lot of lettuce, but not much more than 1/4” of meat. This place will be fine, it’s packed all the time and Marin isn’t exactly a hot bed of competition when it comes to places to get a reasonably priced lunch. Disappointing.

First time here and the place was packed – and for good reason. Got the #17 (The Godfather) and it was one of the best sandwiches I have had in this part of CA. Fresh-baked sourdough, Italian bologna, salami, ham, cheese, lettuce, red onion, mayo and mustard – perfection. Not cheap, but certainly worth the price.

One of the best sandwiches in town. (Don’t skip on the breakfast sandwiches next door…..).
I did update the menu photos as the prices have increased.

Ordered online, which we thought would work out great. But my sandwich was missing the mustard, mayo, and bell pepper (#19). One just one slice of cheese for protein?! Very disappointed. The bread is tasty, but the shape and proportions are terrible for a sandwich – it’s about 75% bread and 25% filling.

DELICIOUS!!! My coworker raves about this place, and finally brought me one. Ham and cheese with everything.

This place is amazing. Watching how efficiently the team works together is inspiring. I had the Ruben and my friend had the turkey sandwich. Their bread is delicious. Sadly my friend accidentally dropped their sandwich on the floor and the owners were more than happy to replace it. Thank you so much Michael’s sourdough for the passion for your craft and comfortable atmosphere.

This place is hella good! I got the no. 6, Pastrami. The bread is the key but the stuff under the bread is great too. Nice big ol Sammy for a decent price. This is a San Rafael institution that just keeps on giving.

Replying with a snarky comment to my question of how a business can close for 5 days straight, and then saying this in a comment below, makes absolutely no sense. Good luck with that, bud. “Hi Randahl — thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I’m sorry to hear the sandwich felt disappointing to you.
Like many restaurants, we’ve had to adjust prices over the past few years as our food and labor costs have risen significantly — our ingredient costs alone are up about 20% compared to three years ago”.

As a self-proclaimed, sandwich connoisseur, this is hands down the best sandwich I’ve ever had. The bread is so fresh, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients. I have to limit myself to one sandwich a week, otherwise I’d be in there every day. Highly recommend.

I always get the same thing and love it! The sourdough here is amazing. I get a number 10 (golden gate) sourdough bread, ham and swiss. Great sandwiches and the line goes fast even when it is huge.
