Friends took us here as it is one of their favorite restaurants, and we found out why. One of the best we been to in Florida. Service exceptional, food was great. We went back 2 weeks late and can’t wait to go again!

Went to this wonderful place for the first time the other day and I must say, I was very pleased. Very well established Steakhouse after nearly 20 years in business and tucked away off the main road.
The menu was not large but rather focused. I do wish there were more steak options but what was offered really met and exceeded my expectations.
Would highly recommend.

We were celebrating a friend’s birthday on Saturday evening. We have been before and really enjoyed. Both ribeyes were not cooked properly, very chewy and not flavorful. Neither finished and didn’t take home. However, the filet’s were very good, as were the sides. The highlight of the evening was The Dirty Cesar. Dennis was our server, he was very friendly and kind, but seemed overwhelmed and kept forgetting things. It just wasn’t relaxing. May have been an “off night” merely disappointed.

Dennis was our waiter and he was THE BEST! The food was beautiful and tasty. Very high quality. The music was soft and relaxing. The owner came over to say hello. I will be going back soon. This was the perfect place for a soothing evening. I loved it!

Service was great and so we’re the cocktails. I love what some of the remodel did with the atmosphere but unfortunately I was disappointed with food quality. My Delmonico was tough and chewy and seemed to have been cooked a proper med rare. More important the Tuna appetizer was on the menu as AAA sushi grade and didn’t seem to meet that quality. I understand times are tough for restaurants but you’ve gotta meet us in the middle somewhere with prices and quality. I have always liked this spot and often recommend it to others, but this visit stung a bit.
Edit for owners response: I truly appreciate the follow up, we have always been happy there and as stated above always recommend it to friends. Comment not meant to hurt the business in any way, wishing you the best.

Absolutely the best food I have had. Everything was amazing. The staff were also very friendly and quirky (but still professional), something we enjoyed very much.
One of our favorite spots.

I typically prefer not to write negative reviews publicly, but unfortunately I have not received any communications back from this restaurant’s management staff regarding my troublesome dining experience despite contacting the establishment directly through its feedback channel. To that end, this was the first time my wife, daughter, son-in-law, and I dined at MJ’s. It was my birthday and retirement celebration, hence it was a major milestone in my life. We decided to dine locally as opposed to traveling to our usual tried and proven steakhouses. First off, the statement that “you only get one opportunity to make a first impression” should be underscored in this review of MJ’s. That being said, my first impression of this restaurant was etched into memory the moment we walked in the front door. Much to my dismay, the doormat was filthy, out of place, and more surprisingly had a used toothpick laying on it. One would think that a restaurant which touts all of its awards would at the least make a concerted effort to keep the establishment spotlessly clean. It was early in the evening on an off-peak night so busy-ness could not be used as an excuse for the lack of attentiveness. Disappointment #2 came when we were seated. I noticed that there was a card placed on all of the tables. Thinking that it was a “welcome to MJ’s card”, you can imagine my shock when I discovered that it listed the “house rules” of the restaurant which included the prohibition of; the use of profanity, generating a lot of noise, and finally, not to use a cell-phone while speaking loudly on it. SERIOUSLY?!? Management actually thinks that it needs to remind patrons how to act in an “up-scale award-winning” restaurant??? One must realize that MJ’s is far from being a fast-food restaurant, and it appeared that the diners present were mature and well-mannered – maybe it was the house-rules card that kept everybody in line (satire). Pardon me, but I do not need to be reminded how to act in a restaurant where we paid close to $300 for a party of four – and that was without ordering any cocktails. Consequently, I found this card to be highly insulting and offensive. Adding insult to injury, my daughter had secretly requested a surprise birthday dessert for me, and the hostess completely forgot about it and let the cat out of the bag in front of me when my daughter requested it after our dinner. Disappointingly, the “birthday dessert” was just a typical Crème brûlée dessert choice with a single candle stuck in it. My daughter was embarrassed to say the least. On the other hand, the service was good and our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, the food was good also however I feel that it was overpriced as compared to the quantity and quality of food received for relatively the same cost at other well-known steak houses in Sarasota and Tampa. You live and learn. Lastly, the lack of a response from management despite contact efforts does not leave me with the impression that this restaurant is concerned with repeat customers. I would gladly welcome a response.

Went here for Christmas Eve. Food was great husband and I split a 16oz. Normally I have leftover but the 8oz cut I had was so good I enjoyed the whole thing. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area or visiting!

Jen always takes amazing care of us. We’ve been coming for years and it’s been exciting to see the restaurant expand. The steaks are wet aged and delicious, they have a beyond respectable wine, beer, and liquor menu. The cordon bleu is phenomenal, as are the au gratin potatoes. Order the herbs de Provence for the bread and your steak!! Thank you all, always. This place rocks!!

My filet was delicious, and the cocktails and wine were also a good pairing. My husband’s ribeye wasn’t quite as good, but the au gratin potatoes were a hit. This was an Anniversary/Valentine’s gift for us, as we had never been. And my husband mentioned it when making reservations. A teeny bit dissappointed to see t-shirts and shorts worn by some of the people in the dining area, especially for an upscale French steakhouse. Our secondary server forgot to bring out more bread, so we didn’t get to finish the roasted garlic. (Probably better as I would not have finished my dinner) All in all I’m glad we tried a new place, but it was a little pricey.
