To be fair, this was my very first experience with the restaurant, and I discovered it through the third-party app **Too Good To Go**. The appeal of the app is that you don’t know exactly what you’re getting—it’s a surprise meal at a discounted price. Just based on the restaurant’s menu alone, I felt confident that whatever I received would be worth it. The offerings looked delicious.
My surprise meal included a **turkey wing, mac & cheese, and collard greens**.
Let’s start with the positives:
The **greens were excellent**—seasoned well and full of rich, soulful flavor. Easily the highlight of the plate.
However, the **mac & cheese fell short**. It was overly oily, and the top layer of cheese was more burnt than baked, which really took away from the comfort and creaminess I was hoping for.
The **turkey wing**, unfortunately, was tough—almost leathery. It had clearly been well-cooked at some point, but by the time I received it, it seemed like it had been sitting for hours. What might have been tender and juicy fresh out of the oven had lost its magic.
Now, I get it. The Too Good To Go app offers discounted meals, and at **$4.99**, it was definitely a great deal in terms of portion size. But here’s the thing: even if the portion is reduced, the **quality of the food shouldn’t be compromised**. A great restaurant should see third-party apps as an opportunity to win over new customers—not as a way to clear out old food. If the food isn’t something you would eat why serve it to your customers, all money isn’t good money I much rather you not serve it if food quality is going to be an issue.
The fact that this is a **Black-owned business** is a huge plus for me, and I truly want to support it. That’s why I’ve decided to give it another shot—this time as a walk-in customer paying full price for the same meal. I want to experience the food as it’s meant to be served and see if the quality improves.
I’ll be rooting for a better second round—because the potential is definitely there.
