Tasty food. The stir fry with red curry was particularly good. Small dining room, maybe with 20 seats. They were doing a lot of take out business on a Monday in mid-February.

Gross. Food quality here is not a priority. Just ordered take out tonight and might as well have just burned $50. Not sure how an Asian restaurant can get rice wrong but they sure did. Rice was broken in pieces. Flavor was bland. Nothing impressive here.

Full disclaimer: Chef Toan is a friend — but this review comes from the heart (and stomach)!
I haven’t tried the official Mi Xao menu yet, but I’ve had the rare treat of enjoying Chef Toan’s off-menu creations, and every single dish has been outstanding.
From a Vietnamese-style steamed fish (yes, the one we caught ourselves!) to seafood pasta, sashimi with his signature dipping sauce, perfectly cooked beef steak — and even Southern-style shrimp & grits — he nailed every flavor.
If the dishes on the menu are even half as good as what we’ve had, then trust me: you’re in very good hands.

If you’re looking for a no frills but a friendly place, this is it. The pho was outstanding. Exactly what you would want in the broth. Sturdy noodles. The beef was tender.
Fried rice and stir fry was great. Dumplings were very good.
The spicy fish pho with shrimp was amazing.
It was worth the stop

Best pho in town! Though I may be biased because it is the closest pho in town for me. There is always a good amount of meat and noodles in the soup and the broth is delicious! I love their jasmine tea, the first time I went there the man working the register suggested half sweet and half unsweet and I have done that ever since. Compared to most places these days the food gets out extremely quickly, I have only ever seen people have to wait a little while for take out ordered at the restaurant.

The food is delicious! The soups come with the right amount of noodles and meat and the salad is one of the best I’ve ever had! The service is very good and quick and the people working here are very nice. I highly recommend!

Coming from the midwest where pho is a staple in my Asian community, and having pho in other parts of the country like Vegas, felt like the pho was nowhere close the traditional pho one would expect. Definitely lacked the traditional spices needed such as star anise, which also made the broth lacking in fragrance and taste. The broth leaned more towards a straight flatter beef and mildly ginger taste that didn’t give it the depth or dimension of spice, hint of sweetness, to savory. For $15/bowl, also only had one cut of meat which appeared to be the flank. No other options such as meatball, tendon, tripe, etc. I was disappointed given high reviews as I was looking forward to comfort food in the area as my overall food experience in SC was lacking. Also missed a few important condiments for pho such as chili garlic oil. Service was friendly and fast. Dining area was very small. Enjoyed the kids menu options for a fair price. Unfortunately, pho didn’t hit the soul so left feeling full but hungry.

Mi Xao is our goto Vietnamese in Charleston. Tuan the owner is a wonderful chef. We had him cater a small family party of 15 people 20 years ago and it was a huge hit. We have been going back ever since.
