That said, finding edible Mexican food in Pacific Northwest is usually a quest more difficult than finding a dry sidewalk in November. Most of the time, you’re just paying for a lukewarm tortilla and a dream.
Then I found Mi Tierra, and hope finally returned.
To begin with, the ambiance is so authentic that I halfway expected a relative I’ve never met to walk out of the kitchen and ask why I haven’t called. The place is decorated like a Hacienda, and honestly, the décor with its rustic charm trick your taste buds into believing you’ve just crossed the border, even if it’s actually 40 degrees and raining outside.
As for the food: it’s really good.
In a land where “spicy” often just means either “we added an extra grain of black pepper,” or “we added uranium”, Mi Tierra serves actual, authentic flavor. Whether it’s the rich sauces or the well seasoned meats, eating here is a major win over the bland Mexican-food desert we call the Pacific Northwest.
Best of all, the prices are reasonable which is a real challenge in the current” economic climate where dinner for two at McDonalds is now $50. You get a massive portion of “real-deal” food without having to sell a kidney or take out a second mortgage. If you want to stop eating “tacos” that taste like sadness and disappointment and start eating like you’re on vacation, you might want to check this place out.
No passport or dinner jacket required
* pro tip:You may want to check out their menu on the Mi Tierra Official Website to plan your escape from mediocre salsa and to avoid the feeling that you are sitting for a test that you havent studied for as the wait staff can be pretty fast to take your order
Chips and salsa arrived at the table and extra refills were provided without prompting the Sta which was really nice. The kids menu was exceptional because the enchiladas ordered by the youngest were consumed without hesitation. I had the daily special 3 seafood tacos with shrimp. They were nice and full. I took one home because I was quite satisfied and look forward to the leftovers.
Decent sized parking lot that is shared with a few other businesses, and I believe I saw a sign for “additional parking below”
The interior is bright, welcoming and open. I was promptly seated at lunch time with chips, salsa and water immediately. I hadn’t been here so I need a few minutes to look over the menu. My server was not pushy or overbearing and allowed me time to browse before making a decision.
The lunch menu was very reasonably priced with lots of options for a meal at a discounted price tag.
I settled on the chicken fajitas. It was plenty of food for one sitting. Served with rice, beans, sour cream, and guac. Fresh guacamole, well seasoned rice and beans. The chicken was flavorful and tender and the veggies were grilled really nicely. They use a lot of spices so this is a more “saucy” version of fajitas.
Overall I would definitely recommend this place if in Monroe and looking for an easy, quick, delicious and cost effective lunch!
