Completed an overdue trip to Mi Rancho tonight. Overdue since it’s right up the street from work. I am a big fan of Caribbean flavors and small business so I was hyped. Started with a chicken empanada. Little light on the chicken but perfect crust and flavor was silly good. The sauce on the side sets it off perfect. We’re off to a good start. I went with the chicken, sweet plantains, yellow rice and fried cassava. Presentation was elite. Everything on the plate was a hit. My daughter got the mofongo with shrimp and plantains . Another winner. There’s a lot of lettuce and tomato on the plate, which she didn’t eat, but she got more than enough out of this meal. My wife got the Sweet Golpe sandwich. She is not someone who takes easily to new things, but she was very satisfied with her food as well. Whoever is in the kitchen does not play. The staff was very friendly and appreciative of our business. Most places give you food. Some cook it and serve it with their whole heart. Mi Rancho is the latter. The only knock is if you eat there, you have to sit outside. Flies were a bit of a nuisance. In conclusion, quality experience. Food presentation, taste, service all A+. And a menu with more stuff I want to try. The best thing you can say about a food spot is “I would go back.” I definitely am. Chofan up next.

I really was hopeful for this place. I see the Facebook post all the time and read the reviews, everything looked amazing. I finally did some chores in the area so I stopped by. While I appreciate that you want to incorporate the family to the business, however the child giving me my food and fork was wiping his nose with his hands. I started eating on my way home. I bit into the 1st Empanada with Beef and was like where’s the beef, so I bit through a few more bites of dough and there was only like a tablespoon and a half of meet inside. I Then bit into the 2nd Empanada hoping the 1st was a fluck. NOPE! It had even less meat, the person who made them should be fired. I’ve had Empanada at other Dominican stores in York and they were stuffed with meat. I waited till I got home to try the yellow rice. It is clearly boxed Goya Yellow rice, not freshly made. I know boxed vs fresh rice on any given day. I am very disappointed, I’ve been wanting to try them for so long! I’m trying to figure out how to post pictures so you can see.

There’s one bad thing about Mi Rancho, which I’ll share towards the end of this review. I visited on a late Tuesday afternoon/early evening for the first time. Mi Rancho is a walk in-take out type of place, tucked into a small strip mall in Manchester, PA. It’s so welcome in a sea of pizza/sub shops! It offers a variety of Tex-Mex-ish food, the primary being BBQ beef ribs and chicken. For this visit, I went with the three piece BBQ ribs, the coleslaw and the Caribbean beans.
The ribs are cooked in the oven, then finished off in the smoker “out back” and they had a beautiful smoky aroma and flavor, with the meat having a peel-off-the-bone texture. A mild sweet and savory tomato-based sauce came on the side in a small container. Very good all around.
The caribbean beans were in a rich savory broth with melt-in-your-mouth tender beans. The perfect side dish to the ribs–absolutely delicious and a recommendation for any bean lover. I wish there had been more of them and will absolutely get them next visit.
The coleslaw, while plentiful and crunchy, was bland, lacking either a mayo taste, or a vinegar taste. It wasn’t sweet, nor tart, and honestly was a bit disappointing. Pass on the coleslaw.
I also got a chicken empanada, which was a perfect hand-size piece of savory deliciousness. The shredded chicken inside was tender and divine, the crust flaky and just the right texture. I should have gotten more of these and will 100% try the beef and cheese empanadas next visit, and probably won’t be able to resist the temptation of the chicken empanada, too.
This brings me to the bad thing about Mi Rancho. As mentioned, it is carry out only (no onsite dining), so you will have to take away whatever you order. The aroma of the food is out of this world, and will torture you the entire drive to wherever you’re going. However, there is a solution to this bad thing–order a couple of empanadas to munch on during the drive and you’ll be set.
Overall, I’d recommend Mi Rancho. I spent under $15 for my meal (no drink or tip included), which is comparable to most takeaway places. The portion sizes were adequate, the selection was varied and the staff friendly with fast service. I’m already planning on what to order for my next visit.

I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite places in Manchester after having marvelous experiences a few times now. The ribs were on point with a flavorful default dry rub and the chicken is pleasantly reminiscent of several of my favorite Peruvian chicken joints down south. The side dishes also shine, and the folks behind the counter are always pleasant and accommodating.

The food was great! The price was excellent! I had an awesome pulled pork sandwich (called sweet rose) and some great pulled pork fries! I’m a simple guy, and the food was to the point and tasty! Looking forward to going back for more!

It’s a no for me!
While I love a good family oriented places a kid alone taking orders and serving food isn’t my ideal restaurant experience. (Even though he was nice) & no adult even acknowledge our presents.
So let me get straight to the point; the chicken empanada was empty. And the chicken had no flavor, I was giving boiled shredded chicken & there was no cheese in it either. On top of the shell of the empanada being the best part of my food.
My tacos were a negative three, because once again I had very little flavorless chicken in it and I have never had a corn tortilla that was half cooked and only once per taco. I was so thin I couldn’t even roll it up because it was falling apart.
To top it all off I was charges .75 cent for a tiny dollop of salsa that wasn’t even hot or has flavor.
But yea it’s a no for me, I would not recommend.
Please try harder and give the people food and flavor it would be much appreciated

I am unbelievably disappointed with the service that I received here at the establishment. I waited about 45 minutes from my food and it was absolutely mid. there were tables outside with bees, flying around everywhere. My friends were getting stung And there was a bee that flew into my food as well. I received three chicken tacos with sour cream and salsa Verde. I’d honestly rate that a four out of 10 the food was a little bit lukewarm. The chicken had no seasoning on it and it was heavy on cilantro and onion.. disappointed. my tortillas were very greasy and almost soaking wet. I had to wash my hands afterwards. I also received an order of Pork fries the fries were soggy wasn’t a fan. if you’re actually looking for authentic Latino food, I would recommend a place like Tacos Sanchez.
