Since opening in March 2011, Mi Patria has proudly become the first and only Ecuadorian restaurant in Des Moines. Founded by the Miranda family, who bring more than fifteen years of experience in the restaurant business industry, Mi Patria was born from a dream of sharing authentic aromas and flavors of Ecuador with the community.
Before opening the restaurant, the Miranda Family showcased their passion for Ecuadorian cuisine at local fairs and festivals, including the World Food Festivals in Des Moines for more than 7 years. Today, Mi Patria continues that tradition by offering guest a true taste of Ecuador in a warm and welcoming setting.

My husband and I, plus our two kids, celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary there. We celebrated yesterday. We go there to eat a lot. I felt like I should write about my experience and leave a review. We showed up an hour and 30 minutes before it closed. The waiter seated us near the inside of the restaurant instead of placing us in the back, like they normally do. Service was excellent last night—he kept our drinks full. The food was amazing. It was so joyful to experience Ecuadorian food since I’m half‑Ecuadorian (my dad’s side). I’m glad my kids got to taste a bit of Ecuador. We moved here last year from Idaho, and I’m excited to have found this place—actually discovered it on my birthday last year.

I came here with my stepmom and everything we ordered was amazing! Both of our meals were delicious, and we tried three different desserts —all of them were incredible. The service was great too super friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend this place, can’t wait to come back!

Loved this spot! Will definitely be back here to try as much as possible. The food was amazing. We started off with the plantains to start, which was amazing and I would highly recommend it. We enjoyed our main courses but wish I had something a little more flavorful instead of plain rice in my dish. The ribs were great and extremely flavorful. What really blew me away was the dessert we had! Would highly recommend having dessert here, and I might just stop back here just for the starters and dessert. The Service was great even though they were extremely busy.

The food is good. I tried tortilla de yuca as an appetizer and it was delicious. As main dish I tried arroz con carne, and it was not bad. The chicken is good but nothing special about that. The portions are big so I had the half of it to go. And also I tried their blackberry juice (don’t remember the name) the waiter recommended me and it was great – not too sweet and flavorful.

I cannot say enough good about Mi Patria, their food and staff. They have been a “go to”, “feel good” homey place for our family and or friends to spend a night out having dinner and conversation. The servers and the atmosphere at Mi Patria have always made us feel at home no matter the size of our group. All of this without mentioning how awesome the food is. No matter who you are you are bound to find something tasty to eat at Mia Patria. Thank you.

Really glad I tried this place when traveling to DSM for work. The agua fresca was amazing… not too sweet and not too tart. Perfect. The ceviche and lomo saltado were delicious. Portions are a little crazy large, but I’m sure that appeals to most people. Reminded me of my visit to Peru and Ecuador. Highly recommend!

We tried the empanada trio, and they were perfectly flaky!
The cheese one was my favorite. If you sprinkle a little sugar on it, it tastes just like a funnel cake.
The entree portions are HUGE. One dish could easily feed two people (we ended up with leftovers).
My arroz con pollo could’ve used a little more protein and a bit of spice, but I’d still recommend it.
The lomo saltado though? Absolute perfection. The steak was cooked just right, and the sauce was
Never expected to find such amazing Ecuadorian food in Iowa, but this spot definitely delivered!

The decor of the restaurant was pretty simple. The service was good. The waiter explained some of the dishes for those who were unfamiliar. The food portions were large and well prepared. The churrasco was a little tough but tasty!!

I love this place. I often used to come here for lunch when I was more local to the area and the food is always well made and flavourful and the portions huge. I practically always had leftovers, and they always re-heated extremely well. The atmosphere is usually also pretty relaxed and quiet, and the service fairly laid back. The value you get for your money here really can’t be beat at many places and the parking is good too.
