Located in downtown Spartanburg, Mezcal is a family run restaurant offering great Mexican food in a welcoming environment. We are visiting from California and this food is delicious and authentic and the margaritas were some of the best I’ve had in a long time! Everything we have had here has been delicious and all of the servers are very nice, attentive and helpful. They have a full restaurant and bar. Highly recommend stopping in for authentic Mexican food with great service!

We had a terrible experience all around. We came once about a year ago and had a great experience so we stoped back by today.
For starters they never acknowledged that we had a toddler with us, they only provided 2 sets of silverware for my husband and I. None for our kid- didn’t offer a high chair or an extra plate or provide napkins or anything you typically see when eating out with a child. Not to say they wouldn’t have if we had asked I just found it VERY strange that it was literally like the staff could not see our child.
We were the only people there at 4:30 on a Friday so that should have tipped us off. The food was terribly bland, my husband and I ordered two very different meals and they both tasted like nothing at all. The waiter barely spoke to us- never asked if we needed anything after the food was delivered or asked us how it was. He brought our food, grabbed our plates at the end and then dropped the check without saying a single word to us.
Really really disappointing given how great it used to be.

Strange place. Bad atmosphere, horrible interior. Wait staff is off. Food was ok, too pricey however. Went with friends for birthday and was met with a mandatory 22% tip. 22% is crazy with the service. Also took forever (nobody in there).

22% gratuity for parties of 5 or more. I think the servers realize they’re going to get a tip regardless of how terrible their service is – and it’s pretty bad. The food quality has really gone downhill.

I remember the original Mezcal. I was more of a high class restaurant. I can’t believe how horrible it has gotten. No service, mixed up order. Waiter never returned and bill was overcharged. No wonder it practically vacant during a large downtown event. I willnever go back, and am beyond disappointed.

Went there and got the lunch special flatuas with shredded chicken, not seasoned at all, the chicken taste so bland and even the flour tortillas were missing something. The rice was even so bland, didn’t eat all my food. This was my first time here and really was expecting more since the atmosphere looked so inviting. The staff was nice, but there were only two of them working the lunch hour, they def needed at least another person, I work in the food industry and can see the struggle between the two workers. My meal is only $10 so thankfully I didn’t spend an arm and a leg but PAPAS AND BEER all the way, maybe this place is more a dinner restaurant!

My friend and I along with 2 toddlers and a 10 year old dined here. True enough that would be a party of 5 but, we were 2 adults with children and received our bill only to notice that we were charged a 22% gratuity for a party of 5 or more. I don’t recall seeing anything about this on the menu (doesn’t mean that it wasn’t there) but our waitress certainly didn’t mention it to us at all. The service wasn’t that great and definitely wasn’t worth a 22% gratuity. On top of the 22% gratuity charge there was also an almost 4% charge for not paying with cash assuming that we wouldn’t be paying with cash. On the bill it stated that there would be a discount for the same percentage of the non cash fee for those who paid with cash. I feel that this is a complete ripoff. Over 25% of additional charges added to my bill without me knowing prior to dining. I will not be dining at this restaurant ever again. What a scam.
