My family and I had dinner at MezCal Mexican Restaurant, and our experience was average overall. The food was decent and met expectations, but nothing particularly stood out. Our server was kind and polite; however, attentiveness was lacking. We ordered cheese sauce that never arrived, and it was not addressed during the meal.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant and inviting, which we appreciated. That said, the floors appeared to have some type of cleaner or residue on them, making them slippery and somewhat difficult to walk on safely.
While there were positive aspects to our visit, there are areas that could use improvement, particularly in service attention and floor safety.

MEZCAL Mexican Restaurant in Mechanicsville-Virginia. On Wednesday evening around 8:30 PM. While we were seated promptly, the rest of our dinner experience was disappointing. My husband ordered steak tacos, which were just okay. I initially ordered chimichangas with a salad and rice and beans. But I was informed that they were unavailable- disappointing, since I chose them based on the appeal. I substituted two burritos with rice and beans.
Unfortunately, the burritos arrived soft to the point of being nearly inedible, the rice lacked flavor, and the portions of beans were minimal. For a fifteen-dollar meal, it was unacceptable in quantity and presentation.
I spoke with a manager to explain my dissatisfaction. He explained that the burrito’s texture was intentional and perfected by some customers. But this does not address the poor execution of this dish. I requested that the meal be moved from our bill. Instead, he discounted it by only $1.25 on a $30 total. That felt dismissive and inadequate given the circumstances.
Overall, our visit did not meet our expectations.

I have eaten here several times, and every time I was more than satisfied. The staff is very friendly. There are many options on the menu. Every meal I have had here was better than average. This is my go-to place in Mechanicsville. Do yourself a favor and end your meal here with the Tres Leches.

Picked this place because of other reviews and I was not disappointed. I ordered the Molcajete Mezcal because it has the best of all worlds. Beef, chicken, shrimp, chorizo (pork), and even cactus. This was by far the best flavor I’ve ever had at a Mexican restaurant and if I lived close by I would definitely eat here at least once a week. And for only 25$ I had plenty to eat and even a whole meal to go! I also had the strawberry daiquiri (virgin) and the flavor was amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great flavors, awesome service and the environmental was great. Would definitely be coming here again when ever I’m in Richmond area again .

This is a great restaurant with lots of potential but we have been 4 or 5 times and it is never consistent. It’s either the food or service is good never both unfortunately. This past time I am fairly certain they are watering down everything, our queso, salsa, and the sour cream were all very runny this past time and when I asked the server to take the cheese dip back as it was watery and we didn’t care for it, she just heated it up and brought it back and after 2 more times of trying to explain we didn’t want it she didn’t seem like she was not understanding so we just took a loss and paid for it but will probably find a new go to Mexican place, especially with its prices being fairly higher in my opinion than some it needs to live up to the price.

we arrived at an off time so it was nearly empty. service was good. i ordered the chicken and shrimp and rice along with my wife. we got chicken and rice. my stepson ordered the fajita texana and got only one shrimp. you can see the lonely shrimp in the picture. the food tasyed good . price was fair. all in all not bad but the mess up on the order hurt my view of the place.
