A place best experienced through sit down dining and not take out. Old school homemade charm and warmth; from a time when life ran at a different pace.

The three dishes I’ve had are filled with tremendous flavor, something the usual ‘margarita first’ – dime a dozen Mexican restaurants never reach.

Highly recommend.

Real Mexican food, not TexMex.
A locally-owned multi-generational family business that we have enjoyed for Decades!
Wonderful owners with a talent for hiring great staff.
Always clean.
Always easy to park in their large free parking lot.
Always exceptional food, fresh and plentiful.
If you leave here hungry then you left lots of food on your plate
BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT I HAVE FOUND ANYWHERE IN ALASKA.
Enjoy!

My dad raved about this place from years ago. His favorite restaurant. We walked in during dinner hours on a weekend. We were the only people there. We were sat at a table that already had salsa chips and water at it. Waitress checked the pitcher and it still had a few small icecubes floating so she was like meh… its ok? Overly prepared or did someone else walk out We don’t know. Taco shells were store-bought and heated in the microwave (they dried hard super fast) Anyways it was super disappointing.

Absolutely the best authentic Mexican food in all of Alaska. Every time I visit, the staff is friendly, prompt and the food is fantastic. It’s a bit expensive and the portions aren’t huge, but it’s a healthy portion. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

WARNING: This is NOT Mexican/American food, if that’s your thing, that’s fine, but you may not like this.

It’s worth noting the owner said she has owned the restaurant for 52 years!! Let’s go support her!! Her kids used to work at the restaurant all through high school, but now they’re grown with their own families. She told me she had a new grandchild born TODAY, bringing the total to 8 and 1 great grandchild.

My husband and I just had lunch at Mexico in Alaska. WOW! It was a wonderful experience.

We ordered Taco De Carne and Sopa De Pollo(chicken soup).

They also do a lunch buffet 12-3pm for $19 that had grilled chicken, tortillas, fried chicken, zucchini, mole, rice, burritos, beans and all the toppings(lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, salsas, onions etc.) People around us were getting the buffet, but we ordered off the menu. I guess it changes up and they sometimes have steak.

Before we got our food the owner came to our table and asked how everything was. I told her it was our first time in and that the waitress let us taste the verde salsa I had heard about online. She pointed out that some comes with the carne asada tacos my husband ordered too. She asked if we had ever tried mole before and I said once and the one I tried wasn’t good. She explained to me how they make their mole, all the ingredients, and insisted we try some. She brought out 2 mole cheese enchiladas on the house for my husband and I to try. She changed my mind on mole. Theirs is DELICIOUS! My husband practically licked his mole plate clean! She explained that their food is how they eat it at home, very authentic and simple.

My soup that was recommended by a patron sitting at a table near us, who said he’s been eating at the restaurant for over 40 years, I would definitely order again. My husband loved his carne asada tacos, but will ask for corn tortillas next time.

Wonderful food and people! The combo meals come with tortillas so you can make a bean and rice taco as a bonus. Don’t forget you can grab a dozen homemade frozen burritos for those late night cravings.

I love Mexico in Alaska! It’s hard to tell people what is or isn’t authentic, Mexico is a big country just like the USA with lots of regional variation in food, but their food is what I enjoyed in Mexico. I love their pollo frito and their molé. Better get some salsa to go! You’ll want it at home.

In 20 years of going to Mexico in Alaska, our last three times have been less than optimal. Saturday was the last straw. I ordered Tacos al pastor with lengua (tongue). It was one of my favorites. That day the tongue was freezer-burnt and the tortillas were also burnt. We asked if they could replace the dish and they did; only to bring us more of the same burnt food. We pointed that out to the waitress and her reply was it is normal to serve burnt tortillas. Also, we requested jalapeño sauce, and she brought a pink sauce. So, we asked about the color and taste of the sauce and the waitress said that they changed the recipe… Jalapeños are green by the way.
