We’ve been going to Mexico City Cafe for over a year since living in the area. We love being able to support local and our community. Mexico City cafe catered our birthday party event last weekend and did a GREAT job providing a fast turnaround of service, quick communication, and of course delicious food. Everyone at the party was raving how great everything tasted and where they could support this business. Thank you MCC for everything you did to make the birthday event so special!

Walking into Mexico City Cafe feels like stepping into a warm, inviting taqueria straight out of Mexico–the bright murals on the walls, the cozy small space, and the immediate smell of fresh corn tortillas grilling make you instantly hungry and at home. This family-owned and operated gem in St. Louis Park treats every guest like one of their own; the staff greets you with genuine smiles, and you can sense the care that goes into everything.
They bring out complimentary homemade chips right away–thin, crispy, and still warm–paired with two house-made salsas: one vibrant and mild with fresh tomatoes and cilantro, the other with a perfect smoky kick that builds just right. It’s the kind of starter that has you dipping non-stop while deciding what to order. The street tacos are unbeatable: soft double corn tortillas piled high with your choice of meats like juicy al pastor shaved right off the spit, tender carnitas with crispy edges, or flavorful barbacoa that falls apart. Topped simply with onions and cilantro, each bite explodes with authentic Mexico City street food flavor–no frills, just pure deliciousness. I always mix a few proteins and end up fighting over the last one.
The quesabirria is addictive: crispy, cheesy tortillas stuffed with rich birria beef, served with a steaming cup of consommé for dipping that’s deeply flavorful and spiced just right. Dip, bite, repeat–it’s messy in the best way and leaves you utterly satisfied. Their enchiladas, smothered in homemade sauces (I love the complex mole or spicy roja), come out bubbling hot with fluffy rice and creamy refried beans on the side. Portions are generous, so you leave full but already planning your return.
The guacamole is fresh and chunky, made with perfectly ripe avocados, lime, and a touch of heat–hands down one of the best I’ve had. Even simple sides like the rice and beans shine with homemade taste.
What makes every visit special is the hospitality from the family running it–you feel the passion in the fresh, made-to-order food and the friendly check-ins. It’s casual, quick, and consistently outstanding, with fair prices for such quality. In a world of chain spots, this authentic, family-run cafe stands out as a true neighborhood treasure. I crave it constantly and can’t recommend it enough!

Fantastic food and service. We ordered for takeout and our food was fresh and SO tasty. Tried the street tacos, burrito and kids meal taco. The guacamole and chips were so good, the guac is amazing like everyone says. Honestly everything was excellent and the only thing I’m mad about is that I didn’t eat here sooner, since I’ve lived nearby for 4 years.

I came here for takeout about a week and a half ago and had absolutely the worst experience I have ever had here. I have been eating at this restaurant for months ever since I moved into the area. I have had nothing but good things to say up until my last visit. My boyfriend was carded mind you he was the only one who was carded just to enter the store. Then when we came back with our food and had eaten it both me and my partner got food poisoning. I called the restaurant back and told them what happened and instead of offering solutions the manager got defensive with me and started coming up with excuses. please be mindful what business you support and give your money to. hope no one else has experienced here.

We lived in CA and moved to MN a few months ago and have been craving our San Diego foods! Mex City Café has the GREATEST Huevos rancheros by far in all of MN! Get a cup of the café de La olla, it’ll rock your morning buzz! Go there and say hi to Julio Cesar and his team! Also, the burritos are the best around. Actually, everything we’ve had is delicious. This place feels like home.

Food is decent , not authentic Mexican though ! Portion sizes are 3/5 – bit smaller in comparison to the price
We ordered a quesadilla (7/10)
Fajita bowl (6/10)
Not bad experience though – good one time restaurant but won’t rate it as top choice to go to !
Plenty of parking around lots and road side!

We had the best pineapple agua fresca here. The food was great too, but that drink is still in my mind days later! I wonder what their ratio for making it is. I’m going to start trying making it myself to mimic the amazing taste I had there!

We ordered two torts. One with barbacoa and one with some sort of chicken. I forgot. They were both stuffed with so much meat and other toppings, I could only eat half. The food is so delicious. We are going back this weekend to try more!
