When our waitress first brought out the chips, there was no salsa. Once we were able to get her attention to ask for it, she did offer us a few salsa options, which was appreciated. Most places only bring one type and charge extra for anything different. Our drinks also arrived without straws, and since they were dropped off quickly, we had to wait for her to come back to ask for those as well.
As far as the food goes, the chips came out warm (always a win), and the salsa was thick, fresh, and had a slightly sweet flavor that we really liked. I ordered the taco salad and loved that the shell was light and crispy without being heavy or greasy.
The food came out quickly, but the service fell short. She didn’t come back to check on us, ask how the food was, or offer refills.
Based on the food alone, we would definitely go back. We are hoping the service issues were just a one-off, and they were certainly not deal breakers by any means.

We stopped in for a quick dinner and the service was quick. However the chips and salsa were not good, the salsa was very sweet and the chips were beyond stale. We ordered a chicken chimichangas dinner to share ( it is an extra $1.00 to get chicken). We got the the wrong meal brought to us (pork instead of chicken) and we had started eating it and then they brought the correct dinner out. We got to take the second dinner home. Unfortunately the dinner was underwhelming. The restaurant has a lot of cool decor but the food was not great. The staff also just looked dirty ( like food on their clothing) and it was not appealing. Maybe it was us or a bad night for the restaurant.

It’s a classic experience. I can’t rate the food higher because I’ve never ordered anything but the burrito enchilada style. Has anybody else? The chips are great, but they always leave me craving more. Whether it’s the hot salsa or queso, it’s hard to go wrong. Now, let’s talk service. The staff has always been amazing. Very quick and super friendly.

Great atmosphere, staff was very friendly. Our waiter, Gabe, was phenomenal! This was my first time having the sweet sauce and I highly recommend it. Will definitely be back.

We were looking for a Mexican Restaurant and the one we wanted to go to was closed. Ended up here. Very nice waitress. They brought us chips and salsa, but the salsa was more like some strange sauce made with catsup and not sure what else. The queso was fine. Just melted cheese. I got a burrito smothered with cheese. It was alright. Nothing special. A burrito at home would have been more appealing. I tried my husband’s tostado which was soggy and gross. The enchilada and tamale was okay. The food reminded me of Microwave dinners from the 1980s. Not awful, but wouldn’t pay this amount for this food again. Margaritas were pretty decent. Overall very mediocre restaurant with a nice decor.

Our experience at Mexican Villa South was nothing short of phenomenal. We came in with a very large group—complete with picky eaters, special requests, last-minute changes, and all the chaos that comes with feeding a crowd. Despite all of that, the service we received was truly exceptional.
Our server, Savvy (short for Savannah), was an absolute superstar. She didn’t just handle our group—she mastered it. Every order was taken with incredible patience, every picky-eater request was met with understanding, and she kept drinks filled, food timed perfectly, and attitudes high the entire meal. Her kindness, energy, and professionalism were above and beyond anything we could have hoped for.
The food was fantastic, the atmosphere welcoming, and Savvy made us feel like we were her top priority even though we were far from an easy table. It takes real talent to handle a group like ours so flawlessly, and she did it with a smile the whole time.
Mexican Villa South knocked it out of the park. If you want exceptional service, delicious food, and staff who genuinely care about your experience, this is the place. Savvy, you absolutely earned this five-star review!

While the food is delicious, one would think MV could afford to get a water filtration system. The soft drinks, water and even coffee are not drinkable due to the nasty Springfield water. For what they charge for meals it’s not unreasonable to expect to get something to drink that doesn’t taste like sewage

Meh. Waitress was nice. Food was so so. “Salsa” was ketchup and sugar. Chips had no flavor… straight out of bag (chips off a shelf at Walmart are much better). Chimichanga was pretty good, but it was full of refried beans and a smattering of beans. Curiosity was satisfied. Will continue to search for good Mexican food.

Update: 10/17/25 we stopped in for a couple of tacos, the meat (hamburger) was very dry and the taco shells hardly crunched, they were stale. Not sure why we even come here once a year. Awful food. Service was great.
Update: 12/28/24, placed an order for pickup, went to get it. I paid and left and food was fine. My concern is the two young boys hosting. One had cold sores all over his upper lip which he kept touching them then touching people’s cards when paying then touching the bags, sauces and checking food so his hands were all over everything. He was literally contaminating everything he touched. The other boy was complaining he was sick and going to hospital to get checked out and get a note because he has to work at 11 am on Sunday. So you have two compromised workers working today and passing illnesses.
I called in an order for a burrito enchilada style tonight. Upon arrival they said they didn’t have our order. I decided to just call them again. After some time being on hold they said they did have the order. Ugh! Got home and opened the $17 meal and there was hardly anything in the container. More expensive and much less food. Sad this is what has happened to this local establishment.

This food is not good. We saw the free cheese dip signage and thought it would be a win because the kids love Mexican and cheese dip. For starters it’s not Mexican, second we found out why it was free because there’s no other way to get people there and they didn’t even eat the dip let alone the food. We ordered two enchilada dinners one chicken and the other veggie(which I was told they could do, after getting a run down on what veggies options available, it came out with beans and lettuce )They asked out check out how was the food, my five year old said “not good.” Kids tell the truth about everything. Don’t waste your time let alone your money.
