Fun small taco place with ok Mexican food. I went there for lunch and had a couple of street tacos with pork and a bag of chips. I have to say the person behind the counter was not too friendly. Maybe she’d been there awhile. But I got my order in good time and sat down and took in the atmosphere. The pork was ok and it was a good portion. The corn tortilla was pretty standard but didn’t fall apart so that was good. The chips were a little stale. I got there during the lunchtime so they shouldn’t have been sitting around too long. There’s better taco places in Springfield but this place will do a crunch.

The father STL HB and I went to Mexican Villa because we were originally drawn to their beautiful mural outside of the restaurant. When we made it inside, the ambiance was even more inviting. We had seen some poor reviews for the place, but did not head them, thinking this establishment would be good no matter what. Our line of thinking was “if they put in the time to paint a mural, they must be good!” We were wrong. The service was very nice. We started our night by trying their dips. Their sweet salsa could only be compared to katchup water, their mild salsa was a little better, but still watery, and their spicy salsa was more of a thick paste. We had seen in the reviews that the queso dip was also nice, so we got the white dip. This dip was more like butter with the dream of one day becoming cheese. I ended up ordering the street tacos and rice. The taco meet, I chose steak, could be compared to “horse meat”, as father STL HB said, and the rice was like if you took white rice and let it marinate in speggetios. Father STL HB got a jumbo margarita (that was more like a lemonade), and the pick 3 meal. His taco was similar to a school lunch and his tamales and enchiladas were coated in a brown gravy. Overall, the service and ambiance took us back to what it may have been like in the 50’s. Sadly, for us though our stomachs also felt like we ate food that expired in the 50’s. For the rest of the night we felt like puking.

Great place for Mexican food.
Make double sure if a hot or sweet sauce is in the bag of take out.
The waitress said that they come with our meal but no hot nor sweet sauce we’re in the bag.
Service as always is great!

Im 43 and lived in the area my whole life, Ive never ate her until today. Many people swear by this place and others say its horrible. In my opinion its good, is it the best ever? No definitely not the best Mexican food ever. I rank it up there with a general tex mex type place.
I guess its the best to some, its been around since 1951. So they are definitely doing something right and have a following. I will probably go back back sometime but not gonna be a regular stop.

Im Hispanic from Texas. This is not authentic Mexican food. Horrible Beef enchiladas are in a small plate drowning in soupy sauce. Just one sloppy enchilada. Very bland taco bell ground beef. Enchiladas covered in shredded lettuce and no sides of rice or beans. Very Weird. Overated and over priced for amount of food. Margaritas taste like sweet lemonade with ice. I knew something was wrong when you don’t see any hispanic staff.. Never again. I rather endure Taco bell than this crappy food.

I’ve been coming to Mexican Villa off-and-n since 1976… Today marked ONE MORE reason why it’s my absolute go-to celebration spot:
Manager LaToya went ABOVE and BEYOND tonight to help my wife and I get our contract signed for a house we are buying… And that’s just ONE MORE reason I’ll always be a fan of the ‘Villa: THE PEOPLE!
We love you LaToya! You’ll always be in our prayers of Thanksgiving for helping us when we couldn’t get our phones to work! OUTSTANDING service always!

I went to the original location (where I loved the old memorabilia and history of this Springfield institution), for lunch one day in December. The service was outstanding, and the food was hot, with ample portions. The Christmas decorations were nice, too.

Longtime favorite dining spot. A Springfield icon for unique Tex-Mex flavor. The Sancho is my go to.
Although I grew up in Springfield I haven’t lived here since the early 90s so whenever I am in town to visit I hit the Villa for a Sancho in the Fiesta room.

First time eating here with a party of 5 I was hesitant reading reviews but I came anyway seeing for myself. I really wish the owner would read this because to my understanding they own another one of these restaurants that someone in my party said it was actually really good. That being said this place was not the chips were old and were not fresh you could tell came from a bag and spent much time under a heat lamp almost burnt tasting. The salsa was terrible definitely not homemade tasted more like something from a can. I believe you can get a good feel about any Mexican restaurant by there chips and salsa and this had me concerned right away. I looked over menu with hesitation and asked the server for the most American thing on the menu. I ordered a cheese burger she then tells me that the picture is wrong they have no lettuce no tomatoes no pickles nothing. So I asked well what does it come with she replied meat and a bun with piece of cheese. Ok I guess all take it everyone else ordered Mexican dishes. We ordered Guacamole it came in generous portion but was definitely over ripe and old tasting. I’ve traveled all over the world eating at Mexican restaurants and this place holds the worst in my book. When food arrives it looks terrible the meat being burnt having some kind twang taste. They also over fill dishes with lettuce and and cheat you on the mystery meat. The beans and rice was over cooked out of five people we were all extremely disappointed. I asked if I could have some mayonnaise thinking it would help me choke down my burger to my surprise nope they don’t have that either. After 84 dollar bill I figured I would save someone else. save your money and go to taco bell it provides a much more tasty Authentic experience compared to this place. Really feel like the potential is here just that owner needs to clean house and get the quality of food better for the price which is charged.

The brightly colored Mexican restaurant has the best enchilada style burritos I have ever had. They come out on two plates. DO NOT TOUCH THE TOP PLATE! It is incredibly hot. But it makes the food so worth it. I did have them add some jalapeños to increase the heat! This is some of the best Mexican food I have had in Springfield.
On other trips I got their tacos they are really good. But recently I have landed on the magnificent enchilada burrito!
The chips are kind of thick but the salsas are good. The hot version is truly spicy. I enjoy them most combined.
