My wife and I had lunch here….we hadn’t been here in a few years but it was still a good, solid choice for good Mexican food. The staff were very friendly and the food was hot and well seasoned. My wife had the crispy tacos and I had the large plate (only $2 more than the medium and that gets you one more tamale and two more crispy tacos). We had a great dining experience and will definitely be back.

We do love the food at Mexican Kitchen. Server is very nice. My problem is the server having to take orders, removing the food from tables/clean the tables and then bring food to my table. I have previously written about this and had suggested getting a busboy for that job. Noticed you did get one for awhile, now back to same. Server trying to keep up doing all. I hate the thought of server clearing those tables and then rushing-handling our food plates & drinks. Come on and fix this. This is not sanitary in the least.

WORST Mexican food I have ever eaten. ZERO stars on everything,, except service.. NO seasoning – not even salt on my food — and no seasonings on the table. I spent $43.00 for lunch for 2 people for the fajita plates (one beef- one grilled chicken). I found the menu to be scarce in choices other than tacos and enchiladas. I ate at this restaurant many years ago & at the time, I thought it was pretty good, but never will I go back after this experience. I love Mexican food & I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants. IF you want a really good no excellent meal that has an excellent menu, and cost less, you will want to try LaFuentas in Purvis….worth the drive! No, I don’t own or work at the Purvis LaFuentas nor am I related to anyone there …. I’m just a consumer and even though you may have to drive a little to eat in Purvis (10 miles from Hattiesburg), you will save the cost of the fuel by the difference in price. Yep, to say I was disappointed in the Mexican Kitchen, is putting it mildly.

DELICIOUS! Ordered a small plate today – no enchilada – sub extra taco, and it was so good!! If you’ve never eaten at The Mexican Kitchen in Hattiesburg, MS, you should! Been a Hattiesburg go-to of our family since the 80’s! Only only only order a small, medium, or large plate. Period. And just know, you’ll either love it or hate it – no in between. We happen to love it!!

Why do people eat here? Open for 52 years, not sure how. The people were nice, but decor was 1980 with fish tanks that had no fish or water.
The waitress insisted we only order certain items on the menu, even badgered my wife until she chose the “right” meal.
Chips and salsa, nope, broken corn taco shells and taco sauce, not a tomato or chopped onion in sight.
The food was mediocre at best, something I can easily duplicate at home, so not sure what I paid $40 for bland tacos and enchilada.

First and last time.

I’ve been eating at the Mexican Kitchen since I was a baby and it was on Hardy Street. Mr. Frank’s Uncle was running it at the time. Mr. Frank and his staff are absolutle AMAZING and the food is WONDERFUL! The sauce is like no other and very Authentic! My mom & I have been going every year for the past 40years or more for my birthday, I’m fixin to turn 55 May 27., sometimes twice or more a year. I’m from Laurel, but have been living in Meridian so I don’t get to go as often as I want, but this is my all time FAVORITE place to eat!

Food can be anywhere from 1 to 4 stars, The Tamales, Tacos and salsa are 4. The adult quesadilla was absolutely a 1, It was hard, the cheese had an old smell and they use dark meat for the chicken, aka (thigh meat as listen on menu). You can tell the chicken was was old and had a freezer burnt taste and smell. It basically consisted of cheese, very little chicken. I do prefer the taco shells over chips. The racist atmosphere is very real. If you are black I would avoid this place. You’ll will get old food, slow service.

This is my favorite restaraunt in the whole world. Been going for 46 years. Hot sauce is like nothing you have EVER gad. Go!

Let me start off by saying this, sitting down and getting taco shells for chips was off at first, but then came the food. I ordered a chicken burrito and it should’ve just been a crunchy taco with no seasoning posted on the menu. It was HARD, there was little to no chicken inside and chicken was dry and UNSEASONED. My husband got a cheese enchilada plate, it came with nothing but 2 small enchiladas with cheddar cheese inside and on top. Nothing else. No sides on either plate. This is easily the WORST restaurant Hattiesburg has to offer. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a good experience and good food. This is a shame.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Not trying to sound bad but this has to be the whitest attempt at making Mexican food I’ve ever seen and I’m white. The chicken burrito was terrible the tortilla around it felt like a sad attempt at a hard taco, the chips and salsa you normally get when you go in a Mexican restaurant is taco shells broken in half served with taco sauce, the cheese enchiladas were stuffed with cheddar cheese and topped with cheddar cheese. They didn’t serve any type of red sauce or have any of your typical white queso like a typical Mexican restaurant. The chicken in the burrito was very very dry and there wasn’t even a hint of seasoning in the burrito. Google asked me what I recommended off the menu but I don’t recommend even opening the door. Ten out of ten do not recommend
