Took my Parents here to celebrate my Dad’s Birthday and I couldn’t be happier about my restaurant choice! Decided since we are German to try a real German Restaurant. Ironically my Dad says’ “I always wanted to try a real German Restaurant”. I ordered the Metzger’s Wurst Platter. It had a white sausage Bratwurst and Mettwurst. Both were delicious! For dinner I had the Zwiebelrostbraten. It’s a Prime Rib covered in brown gravy and fried onions. My sides were the German Fried Potatoes and the Zuchini. To start the Prime Rib was a generation portion and oh so delicious. The Fried Potatoes were the BEST I’ve ever had. I make some pretty good o es but this was way better. It had such a great buttery flavor. The Zuchini was very good as well. For desert I had the Apple Strudel with Ice Cream and Whipped Cream. This was outstanding as well! My Dad had the German Meat Patties with Mashed Potatoes and Cottage Cheese. Looked like a version of Salisbury Steak. My Mom got the Krautrouladen, which is Cabbage Roll stuffed with Ground Beef, Rice, and Spices along with Mashed Potatoes and Cole Slaw. She said they were the best Mashed Potatoes she’s ever had in a restaurant. The decor was amazing with numerous Coo coo Clocks and Steins to look at! By the restrooms there are many historical articles about the family. I only wish I had the time to read them all! The staff was very friendly and great! Kevin was our server and was great! The owner, John, greeted us and we also met him before we left and was able to tell him how great our visit was!!! I DEFINITELY will he back and bringing more people with me!!!!!

have been going to Metzgers since I was a teen – so let’s call it 40 years. They used to be in downtown Ann Arbor and I would go with my parents and grandparents. I love Metzgers and will continue to dine here for decades to come, bringing my children and grandchildren. Today, however, when my 6” tall beer arrived with well over an inch of foam plus some empty space, and my husband’s 32 ouncer had at least an inch and a half of foam, I was not a happy camper. This was a first for us. When we inquired, we were told it was by instructions of the owner. He says that that is what they do in Germany. I beg to differ. My husband lived in Germany for a time and did notice it (leaving a lot of foam on top of the beers) in Munich and at more touristy areas, but not in general. Regardless, THAT much foam is unappetizing (I scooped mine out with a spoon). My hunch is that this is more about cost savings than authenticity. Sure, it looks nice in a picture with a good head on the stein of beer. But it does not taste good and is a waste of my money. When we paid $17 for a 32 ouncer, there should be no more than an inch of foam in my opinion. So we were not happy about that. My stuffed cabbage was good but lukewarm. Hoping it will be better the next time we return – and there will be a next time.

I lived in Germany for 3 years. The ambience is incredible here. I love all the German Knick Knacks and decor. The waitress was extremely friendly and charismatic. On top of that, she was very helpful. The food was good too. The sausages were ok, not amazing or the best in the world, but still good. The egg noodles were also kind of bland but still not horrible. What really shined was the potato salad. It tastes exactly how my Grandmother makes it. She got her recipe from her mother, who immigrated from Germany. I highly recommend it.

Free bread and butter is also a great way to start the meal too.

I will definitely be returning!

This was my first time at Metzger’s, but I intend to come back again. I loved the atmosphere/decor immediately. Everywhere your eyes fall, there is something cool to look at–old timey German coo-coo clocks, sculpted beer steins, flags, and much more. The food was pretty good. I had the German Bratwursts platter. I didn’t love the spatzen smothered with gravy. I also didn’t love the red wine braised cabbage. The Bratwurst were good, and the meal was good overall. My friend had the smoked salmon and shrimp pasta. It looked good and she liked it.

Literally no complaints. Best onion pie ive had reminds me of my time in Munich. And the Wurst Platte, highly suggest the heet salad as well. The slight tang of vinegar with the sweetness of the beets makes it very palatable.

We went in on a Saturday evening after hearing about this German place from a coworker. The atmosphere was pretty relaxed and not overly crowded which was nice. I tried the schnitzel with potato salad and it tasted fresh and filling. The portion size was decent too, I actually had some left to take home. My friend ordered sausages with sauerkraut and said it was good, though the mustard was a bit stronger than he expected. Service was polite and they checked on us a couple times. Nothing felt rushed. Overall it was a pleasant dinner and I would probably come back when I’m in the area again.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about Metzgers and was hesitant of trying but I’m glad I did! It was absolutely wonderful. Stepping into Metzgers transported me back to a German Wirtshaus in the town I grew up in. The atmosphere was authentic and cozy, the food was delicious as well. I had the Rouladen with red cabbage and potato salad.

A good place to go if you crave for German food. I was there mainly for the pork knuckles but it does not taste the same as I had in Munich area.

Metzger’s is a treasure!!! Great family run establishment with deep ties to the Ann Arbor German community. Their food is authentic and delicious. Their staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I especially love their chicken livers appetizer, roulade, and their pan-fried lake perch. The sides are fabulous: spatzen, Bavarian red cabbage, cucumber salad, potato pancakes, and homemade German potato salad. All so delicious !!!!
