Metropolis Coffee Company has that classic Chicago coffeehouse vibe — a little artsy, a little laid-back, and very neighborhood-driven. The coffee is bold and well-balanced, whether you’re ordering a simple drip or a carefully made latte. The space feels warm and lived-in, with plenty of spots to sit and settle in for a while. It’s the kind of café where conversations flow easily and time moves a little slower. If you appreciate thoughtfully roasted coffee in a cozy setting, this place definitely delivers.

this place instantly made an impression on me. It’s incredibly cozy and full of character, the kind of spot where you actually want to slow down, sit for a while, and enjoy the moment. the coffee was really good, smooth, flavorful, and clearly made with care. you can tell they take their craft seriously. the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, not rushed or pretentious, which is something I really appreciated. if I lived in Chicago, this would 100% be my go-to coffee spot. great coffee, relaxed vibe, and a space that makes you want to come back again.

Coffee Coffee Coffee. One of the earliest pioneers of small batch craft brew in Chicagoland. Currently running a Free the Frogs campaign. Not sure if thats code for something meaningful or just plain fun. Just south of Loyola University the shop’s colors are red and turquoise. They can their own and they have an awesome multi bike rack. Gaze at the lake, celebrate madness.

Cozy coffee cafe with a solid selection of pastries, hand pies, and their own in house roasts.

Plenty of seating and lots of nice art of the wall that is up for consignment sale. Nice spot all around for a quiet read or working remotely.

Their espresso is weak and flavorless. I’ve tried an americano from them and it pretty much just tasted like water, and their lattes just taste like pure milk. Also, the seating is really uncomfortable and I wouldn’t recommend coming here to sit for a long period of time. As for the food i’ve tried the croissants and muffins which are good but nothing special, and the spinach feta hand pie was fine but salty and didn’t really have much filling. Service is usually pretty good at least but when the coffee is bad it doesn’t really mean much. Overall very mediocre and disappointing, save your money and go somewhere else.

I never thought I would have to leave a coffee shop crying and shaking because they forgot to make my coffee. One of the employees that morning decided to make two of their friend’s coffees and proceeded to have a conversation with them.
Mind you… I have to get to work and NOW I’m running behind. I let the employee know, “hey, you forgot about my drink and I need to get to work”.

There was no sincere apologies, didn’t even announce my name AFTER they made it and then proceeded to continue to have their conversation with their friends.

I’ve been coming here for quite a few times in the morning, because the coffee is freaking delicious (and the pastries), and NEVER had any issues until now.
Ridiculous of me to even have to write a review about me leaving a COFFEE SHOP crying because of an employee.

I love this place! The coffee is absolutely fantastic, and I come here frequently. I really appreciate their seasonal beverages, as it offers completely unique flavors. There are lots of seating, but the place gets PACKED (it’s a very popular place), so come early if you want a seat.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – My Favorite Coffee Spot in Edgewater ☕

This coffee shop is hands down my favorite in Edgewater. The coffee is incredible ☕ —smooth, strong, and clearly made by people who don’t mess around with their espresso game. It’s the kind of coffee that makes you reconsider your loyalty to every other cup you’ve had before.

The service is lovely —nothing over-the-top, just genuinely nice people. The owners usually say a quick hello and let you do your thing, which honestly fits the whole cool, low-key vibe perfectly.

Dog-friendly? Absolutely. Which means I’m not just getting caffeine—I’m also getting emotional support in the form of passing corgis.

The place has that effortlessly edgy aesthetic —a little artsy, a little grungy, and full of people who either are working on their thesis or look like they should be. It does get packed when students flood in , but I still love to study or work there. The energy is buzzy, not chaotic.

Pastries? Good. Really good. Definitely worth grabbing something sweet with your drink.

Bottom line: This spot is a gem in Edgewater. Amazing coffee, great vibe, dog-friendly, and perfect for working or pretending to work. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. ☕

Walking into Metropolis Coffee Company feels like finding a quiet corner in a city that never stops. The space balances raw industrial charm with exposed brick and hefty wood tables, softened by warm light and touches of greenery. It is the kind of place where you want to linger, coffee in hand, even if you only came in for a quick pick me up.

Their espresso is confident without being sharp, smooth and slightly chocolatey. It is rich enough to satisfy yet light enough to sip slowly. Paired with a house made granola bar that is nutty, sweet, and just chewy enough, it turns into a little ritual moment. The staff feels like familiar faces, welcoming, discreet, and considerate of whatever pace you came in at.
