Dinner #1: The chicken is overcooked to the point of a hard, crunchy crust over dried out meat. The green beans are quite good, though. There’s a slight glaze on them and they either are fresh or pass for fresh. They’re tender-crisp. These mashed potatoes and gravy, though… salt city. So salty, they’re hard to eat, and since they’re from mashed red potatoes, there are a number of black rot spots in them. The biscuit? Nope. It’s very big and pretty-looking, but it’s hard as a rock.
Dinner #2: Same thing on the chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, and biscuit. The macaroni & cheese would probably be fine for most people who don’t cook, but for those who do and/or know what Charleston, southern cooking is, it’s mush with little flavor, reminiscent of generic boxed macaroni with prepared cheese sauce. Kids would love it.
We’re not sure what this sauce is for (green beans?), but we couldn’t eat it or imagine eating it.

Overall, Metro Diner is a pretty good place, but this meal was so disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend it.
Take a look at the pictures and biscuit video I shared and judge for yourself.
We ordered the Southwest breakfast bowl, an avocado breakfast sandwich, and Parmesan chicken because it was brunch and brunch has no rules. Everything was delicious and confirmed that our daughter was absolutely right (we told her she could frame this moment).
Our waitress, Stacy, was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and somehow always appeared right before our drinks hit empty. We loved the atmosphere, laughed a lot, ate way too much, and had a great time. Highly recommend coming hungry and with someone who insists you go here.
Yes, we put in our name and waited in the car to be called for a table.
Once we were seated the waitress was very attentive even with it being so busy.
The food came fairly quickly considering.
I had the Bissell Breakfast which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancakes. It is a filling meal and was excellent. The others also enjoyed their food as well.
I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of hash browns. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the waffle was soft with just the right amount of sweetness. The portion size was big too — definitely filled me up. Hash browns were cooked well and came out hot, which I always appreciate.
Service was friendly and pretty attentive. Our server checked in regularly without hovering, and everything came out in a reasonable amount of time even though the place was busy. The atmosphere felt relaxed and comfortable, like a good weekend breakfast spot.
Only reason I’m not giving five stars is the wait and noise level. It got crowded fast and was a little loud, and we had to wait a bit for a table. Not a huge deal, just something to keep in mind if you’re in a hurry.
Overall though, really enjoyable experience. Good food, big portions, and a place I’d definitely come back to when I’m craving a solid breakfast or brunch.
