Absolutely incredible. Well balanced. Each bite the flavors exploded. House made blue corn masa. Unique fish we hardly get to see here in the PNW that is prepared flaky and flavorful. Every thoughtful decision and flavor came through in every bite, from the first to last. Everything is GLUTEN FREE. Did not have to worry once about ordering and contamination. Lots of vegan options and they’re extremely careful with allergies when needed. One word of warning….spicy doesn’t really exist here even if it’s habenero. On first try it seems they tailor the level of spice to the clients…but: that being said it was still wonderful, extremely balanced meals/food. Second warning absolutely NEED reservations. Third thing I hate myself for saying this….Flan was not horrible, just not my favorite type…it was more firm in the style which is still great! Flavor was still on cue and above…and still beautiful and unique with an added masa chocolate chip cookie that was surprising and delicious. Drinks on point plus also. One bartender handled maybe 30 diners effortlessly and we never were wanting. Chef brought meals out himself also which was so nice.

Looking for a gluten-free Mexican restaurant in SE Portland? Check out Mestizo. I went with a group from work and really enjoyed everything we tried.
The staff was friendly, there’s street parking available, and overall it’s a solid spot. Definitely worth a visit.

Outstanding!! The food was fresh and delicious! I highly recommended the coconut cevche, the brussels were dynomite!!! They banana tacos were a vegan delight. It was a lot of food, definitely more than one person should eat. The seasonal watermelon margarita was also perfection!

We made a reservation for the patio, but once we arrived realized it was the outdoor seating on Division. They were kind enough to accommodate us for indoor seating. Food was fine, service was fine, atmosphere was fine.

Really good food! Good margarita too. Great vegan options. I went on Thursday at 6pm and there was plenty of open space- I don’t think I needed to make a reservation. Not cheap or expensive, standard division eatery prices. I’d for sure go back.

I’m not sure if the portions are bigger in person versus the to go menu. I will adjust my rating in person if the portions are bigger. Everything is more expensive these days but for the price the portions are extremely small I mean the carne asada bowl was delicious but $26 dollars. Which is maybe the same size as a chipotle bowl, but double the price. The empanadas are great but literally bite size 2-3 decent size bites and you’re done with one of them 3 of them for $17. Yucca fries again great the issue isn’t necessarily the quality of food it’s the price for the portion sizes. If your going out and don’t want to feel stuffed for $40-50 dollars per person might be great option. If you’re hungry maybe consider somewhere else unless you’re into spending $50 or more to get filled.

The food here is great. Order the barria and guacamole. It was nice to be able to share with a table full of friends with dietary restrictions, though, you might not want to! The restaurant inside is small and recommended reservations. Parking can be an issue, so arrive a bit early.

The food meh. The yuca fries were bland. The calamari was surprisingly well fried, but lacked seasoning. The empanada champiñones were fine. The pozole was actually pretty good for being a vegan option. The horchata was subpar, it tasted like gritty almond milk without sweetener.

We ordered a Mestizo colada, sweet corn and queso fresco empanadas, chicken tinga tostada, fried fish tacos and a Mestizo Rice bowl. Everything was wonderful and full of flavor. Especially loved the empanadas and the rice bowl. The place is small with tables pretty close together and it’s pretty loud – we could barely hear our server while he was talking to us at our table. That kinda took away from the experience for us. But just loved the food, so will be back for sure.

An absolute joy to eat there. My wife and I went there last New Year’s and this New Year’s as well, oddly. The food was delicious and warm, the service was incredibly attentive and friendly, and our dishes came to us faster than we had expected. A warm and cozy place that makes you feel like every cent you spend is worth it. Hoping the best for them and their future. It’s a wonderful establishment.
