Do not pass through Lone Pine without stopping at Merry Go Round. This is hands-down some of the best Chinese food—not just in the area, but anywhere. What started as a chance discovery has now become a destination for us and a cravable stop every time we pass through, either for dine-in or take-out.
The restaurant is owned and run by a wonderful husband-and-wife team: she works her magic in the kitchen, and he takes care of the front of the house, making every guest feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. The food is incredible—fresh, plentiful, wholesome, and absolutely delicious (and yes, it makes fantastic leftovers).
What truly makes this place unforgettable is the kindness. We first discovered Merry Go Round years ago when we were stranded in Lone Pine during a blizzard on our way from Los Angeles to Mammoth. Not only did they feed us beautifully, but they even packed extra food for our drive, just in case.
It’s a true hidden gem—warm, generous, and unforgettable. We’re always grateful we found it, and we’ll keep coming back.

Overall the food is really tasty but this place is so overpriced. It’s probably just the town in general, but just thought the price doesn’t make it totally worth it. You have tons of leftovers too.

Came here for dinner as my husband and I made a stop for our road trip at Yosemite National Park. It’s good to have some Chinese food after days of American food. We ordered the Home Pan Fried Noodles and cashews prawns. Both came very quickly and the portions were very generous. We both liked the cashews prawns, delicious. The noodles were served on a hot plate but only some of the noodles were crunchy. It’s a bit oily but the taste it’s good. Very friendly and attentive staff. Remember to make a reservation as it’s a popular restaurant here especially if you’re of a big group. Recommend.

This place is great! The food was fantastic. I had the orange peel chicken, which was just right. Crunchy, sweet, very little spice (but I did not eat the chili peppers that were in the dish). Nice selection on the menu. Great selection of beers. The best part was the people. All of the staff were extremely friendly and efficient. They did a great job. I will definitely come here again.

Such friendly staff!! The girls were very accommodating, and went above and beyond. They were quick, kind, and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and they were so kind to accommodate with an order of steamed beef for my best bud (dog) who just completed a 13 mile hike with us in the rain/snow. I wish I lived closer so I could come here more! They made it such a pleasant experience and it was such a nice way to end the day. Such kind, genuine people!

Delicious food in an eclectic restaurant seemingly set inside an old carousel with a great neon sign. I really enjoyed the Chinese food I had from here! I got a General Tso’s Chicken and the portions were really good, as was the quality.
I was alone and had to sit outside for the first bit, and back in the corner afterwards. People were turned away who didn’t have reservations. My advice is to make a reservation well ahead of time.

Had dinner at Merry Go Round Restaurant in Lone Pine the night before Mt. Whitney hike, and it was a great experience. The place has this fun, retro charm.
The gentleman, Dan, took care of us, and he was friendly, kind, and attentive. We ordered hot sake, beer, shrimp and chicken noodles, and a beef dish with bok choy, spinach, and mushrooms. Everything was delicious, but the beef dish was our favorite, flavorful.
I had planned to come back after finishing the hike to celebrate, only to realize they’re closed on Mondays, such a bummer because I was really looking forward to it!
This restaurant is a gem in a small twon, cozy, welcoming, and the perfect spot to get a meal before (or after) tackling Mt. Whitney. Highly recommend!

We did not expect to have such a nice Asian restaurant in Lone Pine. Food was delicious and service was good. Portions were big with reasonable price. We ordered sesame chicken and special fried noodle. Food tasted like Malaysian/Singapore than mainland China to me but it could be my personal opinion, food was still very nice.
