This is my first time ordering from Merritt’s Grill for our office lunch and everything was fantastic! Their famous BLT’s absolutely lived up to the hype — perfectly crispy bacon, fresh lettuce and tomato, and just the right amount of mayo on toasted bread. You can tell they use quality ingredients.

Delivery was smooth and right on time, and the food arrived fresh and well-packaged. Overall, a great experience from start to finish. We’ll definitely be ordering from Merritt’s again!

“Bring home the bacon!”
Stopped for a dine-in lunch at Merritt’s Grill in Chapel Hill before driving home to South Jersey. Just as we remembered from our time living in NC, the quintessential BLTs are filling, served on sourdough toast, and loaded with fresh lettuce , tomato , and crispy , with just the right amount of (Duke’s?) mayo.
I was tempted by the tuna salad sandwich , which was huge (see menu pic attached), but that’ll have to wait ’til next time.
I did order the classic Banana Pudding for dessert. It was smooth, creamy, and delicious. Not too heavy, not overly sweet. Just the right portion, and a good deal at $3.95.
The service was very friendly to every customer that came in, including us. (And I even had a Duke glass with me…a violation when in Tarheel Nation, I know! )
The atmosphere is an old, converted gas station ⛽ that no longer serves gas, but rather “The Best Food in Town” per the sign above the Pick-up counter. Having lived down here for nearly 10-yrs, I can’t disagree! There are some dining tables inside, patio seating outside in front, and more picnic tables (covered) outside in back. Parking is tight, given the food quality, fair prices, service, and long-standing tradition that keeps customers coming back.
If you’re new to the Research Triangle, just passing through, or a local resident who hasn’t discovered this Southern culinary gem, treat yourself to a tasty BLT, banana pudding, and some of the “Best Food in Town” at Merritt’s Grill in Chapel Hill!

We decided to head to Merritt’s for this weekend’s food adventure. After repeatedly hearing about their Amazing BLT, we had to see if it was worth the hype. It definitely was worth the 1.5 hour drive. The BLT lived up to the hype, but the BLT Burger, the club and the chili didn’t disappoint either. But whatever you do, do NOT sleep on the homemade deviled eggs!! They were super friendly and more than willing to answer any questions about the menu. We will most definitely be back!

Went to Merritt’s Grill while exploring Chapel Hill since we were told their breakfast was legendary. We had the Sausage Breakfast Sandwich (good but nothing special) and the Single BLT (tasty). Their coffee was great, too. A solid breakfast place but definitely not legendary.

Merritt’s Grill is a local treasure! The owners have made some terrific upgrades over the last year. They’ve added more covered outdoor dining space, upgraded the parking lot so there’s one way in and one way out, added some local art and some delightful Merritt logos. Merritt’s has been serving their famous BLT sandwiches since 1929. So yummy! They offer a good selection of other type sandwiches as well. The sides are delicious also. All their fixings are super fresh. The banana pudding is melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The prices are reasonable, and the staff couldn’t be more friendly or welcoming. Do yourself a favor. If you’re in the Chapel Hill area and need a great diner for breakfast or lunch, I highly recommend Merritt’s Grill!!

I tried the double BLT with pimento cheese and avocado at Merritt’s Grill, and overall it was a really enjoyable sandwich. The bread, the mayo salad, and the tomatoes all worked together smoothly, and the pimento cheese, although a bit heavy when paired with the mayo, still blended in pleasantly. The avocado was a great addition and added a nice richness.

The only real challenge was the size. This sandwich is incredibly thick, the kind of thick that makes you wonder if you should have practiced jaw flexibility beforehand. Next time I will go with a single since I have heard those are far more manageable for anyone who is not blessed with snake level jaw capabilities.

If anything could be improved, I would love crisper lettuce, a lighter touch on the mayo, and a bit more bacon. Even with those tweaks in mind, it was still a tasty and satisfying BLT, just one that might be a little too ambitious in its double form.

I was visiting from out of town in some coworkers told me to go here for a good BLT. I got the baby BLT with avocado and cheddar cheese, the broccoli cheddar soup, and a cup of sweet tea. All of it was so good and lived up to the hype! The ingredients in my sandwich were very fresh and evenly spread to blend together well and do delicious bites. You might have to wait to get your food or shut down, though it’s worth it. Parking can be a struggle as well. I’ll definitely come back here if I’m in town again.

Totally Awesome! Known for their famous BLT and it was delicious! We also had the BLT with a burger patty , and this week special was the Ruben, the best, moist coconut cake !
Very busy but efficient, we were greeted immediately, provided a menu and ordered all within 5 minutes. Definitely would return again when visiting the area!

This place is so delicious! I had their classic BLT, which they are known for. Best BLT I’ve ever had, hands down.

They have several versions and all of them include ample amounts of deliciously cooked bacon and some of the juiciest tomatoes. I got mine I’m with guacamole but you can add all kinds of other toppings.

The place was totally packed but the line moved incredibly fast and the food came out quickly. This place knows how to handle a full crowd, and you can tell they have been doing this for a while.

Between the delicious food and great prices I’d be happy to come here for another bite. They also have some cool desserts I’d like to try out next time.

They say to come to Merritt’s for the BLT. It’s good. Very good. Is it legendary though? No, but I will tell you I have only come to Merritt’s for the BLT and while I do enjoy it I have had better (and have made better) and plan on trying other menu items for a change next time I stop in. Pro-tip: order online to avoid the long lines. Your sandwich will be ready within minutes.
