We started with the complimentary bread service and the little shot of soup- both a nice touch. The Ceviche Aguachile was one of our favorites of the night- the citrus sauce was bright and zesty, and we ended up dipping our bread in it because it was so good. The Chow Fun Noodles with Pork & Shrimp were excellent- full of flavor. The Charred Ahi Tuna was another standout- perfectly seared with that smoky charred flavor we loved. The white fish special with shrimp was tasty too, though a bit on the salty side.
Drinks were okay- we skipped the Mai Tai since it’s the same as Monkeypod (same restaurant group) and went for dirty martinis instead, but they were nothing special and definitely overpriced at $26 each.
Service was the one real miss. It took about 10–15 minutes before anyone came over to our table after we were seated, and throughout dinner, our dirty plates sat on the table for a while even as new dishes arrived. It didn’t ruin the meal, but for a restaurant at this level and price point, we expected better attention to detail.
Overall, it was a great dinner- very expensive with somewhat small portions, but the quality and flavors made it worth experiencing at least once while in Maui. We also enjoyed the little brownie to-go dessert they give you after dinner.
We had a great view, and from the moment we sat down, our bartender was nonstop attentive. We were welcomed with two orchid leis each (which I happily paid for, they were gorgeous), followed by a glass of champagne as soon as we were seated. When we opened the menus, we were surprised to see they were customized with our names at the top, which was such a thoughtful touch.
For dinner, I ordered the macadamia nut–crusted mahi mahi, and my husband had the pork shank. Both dishes were outstanding, and we would absolutely order those same entrées again. We arrived around 5:00 p.m. specifically to catch the sunset around 5:30, and it did not disappoint. Merriman’s has a beautiful lanai where you can walk out and watch the sunset. You can also dine out there later in the evening with more bar-style offerings.
At the end of the night, we were presented with a custom dessert featuring a Hawaiian saying written on it. It did say Happy Birthday (even though it wasn’t our birthday), which honestly made it even more special because we laughed about it. The dessert isn’t on the menu, but it’s their s’mores dessert, and if you’re a s’mores fan, I highly recommend asking if they can make it happen.
We’ll be back in February for my husband’s 40th birthday, and Merriman’s will absolutely be our first stop. Exceptional food, service, and attention to detail. highly recommend.
The complementary valet greeted us with smiles and went above and beyond. We arrived early and sat at the patio – for sunset and photos. You can order apps and drinks here.
The food here is outstanding, right from the complementary bread and the dip. We had the chowfun noodles and the macadamia crusted mahi mahi (photos show only half portion). Both of them were very tasty and well seasoned.
Special thanks to Lisa for making our occasion really special. She is truly a master of her art and one of the best hostess we have ever encountered.
Cherry on the top – they celebrated our special occasion with a complementary dessert and prosecco.
Must try place and would love to be back!
The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful, and the staff was welcoming, friendly, and attentive without ever feeling overbearing. I was greeted with a stunning seashell lei, which was a paid add-on but completely worth it and such a special way to start the evening. The menu itself was also beautiful and thoughtfully curated.
As the vegetarian of the group at a seafood-forward restaurant, I was honestly so impressed. They offered a few vegetarian appetizers and an incredible falafel entrée. When you hear “falafel” as the vegetarian option at a seafood restaurant, expectations are usually pretty low, but this dish completely blew me away. It was flavorful, well balanced, and genuinely one of the best vegetarian entrées I have had. I was so grateful they offered it and beyond impressed with how delicious it was. The hummus appetizer with crudité was also phenomenal and a standout.
My husband and our friend absolutely loved their meals as well. My husband ordered the sashimi appetizer and the macadamia crusted swordfish, and both were outstanding. Swordfish is his favorite fish, and he said this was the best he has ever had. Our friend ordered the catch of the day, which was mahi-mahi with shrimp, and they were equally impressed.
The drinks were fantastic and definitely strong, which we appreciated, and the dessert options were excellent. We ordered two desserts and were also surprised with a complimentary birthday ice cream, which was such a thoughtful and kind touch.
The staff truly made the night feel special and memorable, and the complimentary valet parking was an added bonus that made the whole experience feel even more seamless.
Merriman’s Kapalua delivered incredible food, warm hospitality, and a perfect atmosphere for a special occasion. I could not recommend it more and would absolutely return.
Seriously the attention to detail throughout the service was next level and beautiful. Merrimans is a must on your visit to Maui!
Side note – I had a 4pm reservation and called to switch to 5:30 and the host convinced me to keep 4pm to full get the sunset and scenery and they were not wrong! It was amazing!
