We went for lunch at the food took forever (45min on a weekday), and the waitress never stopped by to check on us or to update us on the timing. The table next to us ordered a soup starter around the same time we ordered lunch, and their appetizer soups took 30+min to arrive. Crazy!

The food was good, but not worth the wait, especially at $20 for a small appetizer salad.

The service was friendly, but inattentive.

This restaurant holds such a special place in my heart, and it’s one of the spots I truly miss the most since I no longer live at the Anaha building. It was always my little haven — a place that felt comforting, familiar, and consistently exceptional. Known for its beautiful farm-to-plate concept, every dish feels thoughtfully created with the freshest organic ingredients, and you can genuinely taste the love and care in every bite.

The beet salad is an absolute dream — vibrant, crisp, and perfectly balanced with flavors that feel both refreshing and indulgent. And the wild-caught salmon? Simply mouthwatering. Cooked to perfection every single time, it melts in your mouth and leaves you savoring every last bite. But the true star for me will always be the French onion soup. Rich, deeply flavorful, and soul-warming, it’s hands down the best I’ve ever had and a must-have on every visit. No trip to Honolulu feels complete without stopping here and ordering it.

The service is just as spectacular as the food. The staff are warm, attentive, and make you feel genuinely welcomed, whether you’re dressed up for a special occasion or just casually stopping by. On my last visit, I was out on a walk and a little underdressed, but I still felt completely comfortable and cared for, which speaks volumes about the atmosphere and hospitality here.

This place isn’t just a restaurant — it’s an experience, a memory, and a tradition I hold close. It’s a reminder of cozy evenings, peaceful lunches, and moments of pure joy over beautifully crafted meals. I will forever cherish it and will always make it a priority whenever I’m back in Honolulu. Truly a gem that never disappoints.

A long time Merriman fan from having visited the Merriman on the big island several times, i was very excited to try Merriman in Honolulu.
However, our “fresh catch” mahi (not pictured) was overly salty and buttery, our steak and frites (not pictured) came undercooked, the meat had a bland meat taste and texture was rubbery, our waitress went missing after our table was cleaned after we finished our dinner.
I admit, the vibe is great, music a little loud for me, so it’s great for groups and families that just come to grab a bite. For a family like ours whose focus is mainly on the good food in a restaurant, we were very disappointed.
I hope to return, but want better quality food next time.

Beautiful restaurant. High-end service and environment, but the food was mixed. My steak was good, but the fish was bland. A few other dishes we had were too salty. French onion soup was delicious.

The review is long overdue, but it still stands true.
NO REGARD FOR VEGETARIANS! As a high end restaurant, I would expect to have amazing dishes for EVERYONE.
Merriman’s is a nice restaurant with some amazing dishes (organic chicken on a skillet as an example), and we went there few times. BUT! I put 2 stars because the disregard for vegetarians is shocking. I went with my husband who is vegetarian, and everything was great until we ordered a main dish for him (falafel). My dish has arrived all good-looking and nice-sized (chicken on a skillet) and his dish looked like a tiny meal for toddlers. It was also bland on top of that… It is a MAIN dish! And the only dish for vegetarians!! (That was about a 6 months ago; now they have mushroom ravioli “seasonally”, but I still doubt it would be that exciting)
Why is “main” falafel dish made so sad and tiny?!? Its ruining experience for couples where one person is vegetarian.
As a high end restaurant – come on. DO BETTER. Create equally excellent and exciting main dishes for vegetarians.

If you want excellent dining at incredible value, Merriman’s is a must especially if you’re visiting Honolulu on vacation. Why? Check out the delicious fish ans chips (Happy Hour price=$12!) along with Szechuan green beans (separately)- you’ll want a second order! With a kind and personable service from Alyssa- you’ll recommend this to locals too! Happy Hour is 3-5:30!

We came to Merriman’s for a family dinner while in Honolulu. The atmosphere is lively and sophisticated, but we felt completely welcomed with our kids.
The commitment to local ingredients really shines through in the food. We shared the Tableside Poke, which was fresh and delicious. For mains, the Macadamia Nut Crusted Monchong was cooked perfectly. Even the kids found plenty to enjoy—it’s rare to find a place that balances high-end cuisine with a family-friendly vibe this well.
Service was great – our server, Alisa and team, was attentive and gave great recommendations. If you are looking for a true taste of Hawaii that works for a nice family night out, this is the spot. Highly recommend!

We recently celebrated our 37th anniversary outside at the Honolulu location. Loved the musician playing that evening 23 Dec too. We had the absolute pleasure of being looked after by Reid. He is a very genuine and kind person and shared that he is a newlywed himself. You are lucky to have him on your team. The food and service were amazing and we recommended this location to other people we spoke to while vacationing in December 2025. We will be back to dine here.

Update Dec 2025: the hamburger, taro chips with hummus, Quesadillas were all good as always, but I finally had something that wasn’t good or great here—the spicy string beans. They were way way too salty, or someone dropped a bottle of soy sauce in the pan. We also tried the lobster potpie, which was decent. The service was very good as always except the hostess was a bit cheeky with me after I asked her how much longer we have to wait (with a reservation). She then told me that everyone there had a reservation and asked our party to wait outside in the rain. It’s not terrible, but I was a bit surprised after all the 5* services we’ve getting both here and Maui. I also had another farm to table cocktail that was substantially weaker than the last time.

Update: we came back to try its happy hour menu. The farm to table cocktail of water Mellon and tequila was quite good. Now I don’t feel guilty drinking alcohol anymore because it’s now “farm to table” fresh! The food was tasty as before, with creative combination of ingredients. The Kailua pork quesadilla served with poi and kimchee was a good example of how Merriman’s made it work.

Original review: Our server was superb and the ambience was relaxing and comfortable. Not only our server was good, I also noticed how every employee was really into his or her job. The management did a very nice job training and motivating its staff. We sat in front of the kitchen and had a great view how the kitchen and the wait staff all working together. Kudos! The food was excellent and the price was reasonable. The taro hummus appetizer was one of the best hummus we have had and the it was garnished with bits and pieces of fresh vegetables, a great combination. The burger was very tasty (but just a tad on the salty side) and it came with some very good fries. The buttermilk dressing for the fries was one of the best. The fish sandwich was also quite good. The Nerrimen’s Maitai was just okay. We will return to try other dishes and its desserts.

I’ve been to monkeypod on outrigger and Merriman’s in Maui. I expected this place to be closer in style to the Maui location and I was dead wrong. It seems to be a little more upscale than monkeypod but with worse food. I had the surf and turf which had flavorless fish with a terrible bolognese sauce paring. The wagyu sirloin was requested medium rare but came out well done, overcooked due to its size no doubt. I also had the table side poke which had just fish, avocado, onion, and a soy sauce. Not terrible but not worth $25 for a few bites. The taro chips were the best part. My partner had the mushroom ravioli which was so underwhelming. Zero mushroom flavor due to the overwhelming butter sauce. We had two decent drinks out of the 4 we ordered. Finally the desert was overfilled with macadamia nuts and not enough bread to call it bread pudding. Our sever was our only salvation but he could only do so much when the whole place felt like it focuses on its “aesthetic” rather than food quality. Bill came out to $300, would have been better spent at monkeypod!
