The ricotta toast appetizer with fig jam is unbelievably delicious. I can’t imagine not reordering it in the future.
The pork chop saltimbocca was a fine dish. The meat had a good sear and plenty of flavor, and the polenta it was served on was the best I’ve had in terms of texture and taste. Cooked spinach was the right accompaniment for balance.
My friend ordered the lasagna, which I also considered choosing, as it’s always an experience to try different chefs’ versions of this classic recipe. We agreed the addition of pesto to the sauce was appealing. A decent sized portion makes the serving more elegant than challenging. Still, as good as it was, he couldn’t quite finish it in addition to the ricotta toast app.
Pleasing new age music, high ceilings, gold upholstered booths along the dining area walls, a large center bar and windows looking out at the Canton Shoppes stores and traffic, make it an enjoyable place to have some exceptional food and/or drinks. Pizza and paninis are available, too, for a more casual meal.
One of the worst things about going out to eat is waiting for the food. You get hungry and therefore irritable, just sipping away at your water. Here, my girlfriend and I placed our orders, and were served in a matter of minutes. Not only that, we were given slices of garlic bread to tide us over beforehand.
The atmosphere was perfect — well-lit without being too bright, and beautifully decorated without being invasive.
The food was delicious, too, and the portions were very generous.
One thing that really stood out to me — I asked for water without ice, which is contrary to the norm. Rayna, the woman waiting our table, came over with an ice-filled pitcher, and then, remembering my request, carefully filled my cup, getting as few cubes in as possible. I was already very touched by that, but while my girlfriend and I were eating, she returned with a bottle of ice-free water, refilled my glass, and left the bottle at the table. I could have cried.
I’ve worked in food service before. It can be challenging, and while I never came to resent my job or customers, I wouldn’t blame anyone who might. But at Mercato, we were treated with incredible warmth and kindness.
After an appetizer and two dishes, our total was $65. In this economy, and for food this good and service this generous, that is an UNBELIEVABLY good price. (Brought up to $85, of course, because you should always tip your staff, and Rayna was phenomenal!)
All in all, it was perfect in every possible way, and I look forward to returning and telling my friends all about it.
