The menu may be a bit confusing for newbies but it’s concise enough with simple explanation of each type of Ramen. Be prepared the regular size ramen was More than enough but they offer smaller or even bigger portions for those that need it. The whole menu is very tailored to personal taste and all customizable. I saw that they had Goma broth ramen so I took this while my husband took the Tsukemen which are dipping noodles. We both loved our dishes, the broth in both ramens were 10/10 it had so much depth and flavor. I do think the noodles could improve but rarely outside of Japan do they house make their ramen noodle and broth. We also found the garlic shrimp appetizer to be a superb addition, fully of flavor and spice it was just perfection.
All in all it’s simple decor and meant to be casual and quick. Service was professional and welcoming. It was the star of Oahu for us on this trip. Must stop if you’re a ramen Head.
I appreciate the option to have few toppings and different amounts of noodles, everyone in our party got to choose how much they wanted to eat and left satisfied with no leftovers.
We parked on the side street and we didn’t have a problem accessing the restaurant.
The server was very attentive and very friendly.
Definitely coming back!
On the other hand, the broth left a lot to be desired. As other reviewers mentioned, it was very thin compared to typical tsukemen broth. It also lacked the creaminess and even some of the umami tastes that are typically associated with tonkotsu. It mostly tasted like salt. The dishes are also really expensive if you want to get the usual toppings that come with ramen and tsukemen. Service was slow and kind of unfriendly. Parking is terrible.
Overall, I don’t think I would return here. Maybe their ramen is better than their tsukemen, but I’m not sure if I want to deal with the prices and parking to find out.
UPDATE: Came back to try the ramen. It was also disappointing, just in different ways. The black tonkotsu broth tasted good at first, but by the end of the bowl it had developed an alkaline taste. It was also about the same thickness as the tsukemen broth, so that confirmed my suspicions that they just use the same broth for both ramen and tsukemen. Noodle texture was harder and the portion size is much smaller than the tsukemen noodles. Kakuni this time around was tough and slimy…made me suspect that it was leftovers from yesterday. The ajitama was still fine. Still not sure how this place is so highly rated.
Service is great and very attentive to customers needs.
Parking is limited to street parking so is difficult to find parking.
