I normally go to Marvin’s when I want soul food but since I was on close to downtown, I decided to give them a try. There wasn’t a long line like I’m use to and the selections were smaller. I got two plate with baked chicken (half), turkey necks, greens, black-eyed peas, and lima beans. At first glance, I thought the turkey were neck bones. I wasn’t alone bc the guy in front of me thought the same. They were seasoned but I didn’t like the fact that they were chopped small. The chicken was seriously dry. I couldn’t eat the wing. The beans, peas and greens had no seasoning all but I definitely understand with the rising cases of high blood pressure in our community. But the greens taste really terrible. I thought I was eating chittlins. And the food was weirdly cold as well. All in all, they’re ok. Stay away from the greens.

Line was extremely long; I assume because of folks bumping their gums, which held the line up. Food was cold and they ran out of items by the time I got to the front. Macaroni wasn’t baked in the oven and tasted like Kraft or a cheap box macaroni. The baked chicken was dry. Okra was okay… cold. Unsure if they turned the warmers off or what. Wouldn’t go back. Not worth the drive or the price.

It’s just a simple local joint with homemade soul food. It’s delicious and pretty reasonably priced for the portion sizes. Like, I got a TON of food for 20 bucks. I got the smothered porkchop with rice, yams, and mac and cheese. That plate came with a cornbread muffin. I also added a side of broccoli and cheese. Generally, everything was delicious, and I’d definitely eat here again. There were some things I might do differently if I were cooking the food, but that’s the beauty of eating other people’s cooking. It doesn’t have to be made how I would make it. I get to experience someone else’s interpretation of how they cook the same foods. For example, I use more brown sugar in my yams, and thats my preference, but theirs were still very good. Overall, it was a great experience.

Man how have I missed this hidden gem! I was close by and Google restaurants and Memphis Best Soul Food came up and had good reviews so I went to get me some breakfast. I was really impressed with the cleanliness inside and the very friendly staff. I got a smoked sausage n biscuit and a bologna n biscuit and both were excellent! The biscuits were fresh out of the oven and were so good! I will definitely be back to try their lunch!

It wasn’t what I was expecting. The mac n cheese was average at best, as was the cabbage. The catfish was good and the cobbler was really good (probably the best thing I got). The portions were large. Maybe I caught them on an off day.

If this was the best, please don’t show t me the worst. The staff was friendly, but I never met anyone that wasn’t in Tennessee. But the place was hot! The smell of it was kinda funny, but I choked it up to chitterlings. They did give you generous portions, we went for lunch.. but the food had no flavor. The white beans and turkey were just cooked. And it tasted like there was no salt or pepper added. The broccoli and cheese was very good. But how can u miss with cheese on it. The green beans were just warmed out the can, so it tasted as such. Anyway, customer service was good.

My first time visiting and I was very disappointed. Overpriced for quality of food. I have absolutely no problem paying for food but not when it’s horrible. I got rice and gravy, black eyed peas, greens, and baked chicken. The rice was gummy, gravy was literally the worse I’ve ever had in my life. Big Burnt bits all throughout the gravy. Chicken was over cooked. (Fooled me because the chicken looked very juicy). I understand watching the level of sodium when working in the kitchen but the greens and black eyed peas literally tasted like it was cooked straight out of a can with no seasonings whatsoever. Chicken also had no flavor, just tasted like meat. Customer service was okay, but not enough to convince me to return.

Everyone there is wonderful and welcoming like you’re joining family for dinner. Fried pork chops, collard greens and cornbread, side of macaroni, everything was perfect. I can’t recommend them enough. Oh and I can’t forget about the homemade banana pudding!! Delicious.

We were driving home today and Googled “best soul food in Memphis,” and this spot popped up — it did not disappoint! The food was full of flavor and truly hit the spot. Every bite tasted homemade, like it came straight from big momma kitchen. On top of that, the staff was so warm and welcoming, it felt like having lunch with family. Definitely a place we’ll remember and recommend to anyone passing through Memphis!
