Love this little place! Super friendly staff and easy to order ahead. Extra fast service with the most delicious food. Today I got a 3 cheese meatball sandwich and an order of the best ravioli ever. That red sauce is to die for! Everything I’ve order has exceeded my expectations! Forget fast food. Mema’s is faster, friendlier and fantastico!!!

I’ve been wanting to try this place since I heard of it. I wasn’t sure what to get so the owner gave me a little background on the foodtruck to restaurant journey, the menu, his Mema… I’m glad I listened to his suggestions because it was SO GOOD! But I have a feeling here everything here is. I would definitely recommend this place. The location is great & easy to access, restaurant is bright & clean, your food is made hot & fresh while you wait, and I enjoyed chatting with the friendly owner. I didn’t even make it out of the parking lot let alone home before I was digging in to my grinder and mushrooms strips. Delicious!

UPDATE: I just had to come back… I couldn’t stop thinking about it. For weeks now I’ve been wanting Mema’s again but telling myself no. I finally gave in. This time I got the Italian grinder with banana peppers & the mozzarella cheese sticks. They make it hot & fresh while you wait, you know & they’re just the friendliest people to talk to. Of course, impatient as always I didn’t make it out of the parking lot so here I am eating in the car again. Engine still off, windows up on this 90 degree day stuffing sandwich & sticks in my mouth…sauce on my face, sweating, moaning, mumbling “Mmmmm” through mouthfuls. People were staring… Did I care? No. Some probably wondered what exactly was going on, some just smiled & nodded…they knew where I’d been.
Well, how was it you ask? It was GOOD, oh my God…SO good.

Small little stop in place to pick up a meal to go. Extremely good sandwich/grinders! The Chicken Parmesan Grinder was delicious! Highly recommend it. Also tried out their Cheese Ravioli and thought they were good to.

I’ll most likely be back, the customer service is amazing and the food tasted great. I had one small issue. I ordered the Chicago Corn Beef. It was dripping a lot of beef juice and made the bread really soggy. Just an error, it’s worth the try. It’s a must-have for iowa and It’s quick service.

I just want to say that the sandwhiches are great but the service is above and beyond!! We will definitely be back again soon. We ordered the garlic cheese bread, Italian ham and cheese and the grinder. I recommend all of the above!! Sorry for the missing garlic cheese bread, I ate 2 slices on the way home. They were super busy but got the food out the door fast. You can also order ahead of time if you choose.

I can’t really comment on the service and atmosphere as it was delivered, but the food was AWESOME!! I didn’t eat all the mozzarella cheese sticks or the bread but they were just as good the next day! Would definitely recommend and already have to my family and friends. I got the Yo Adrian and it was really good. Excited to try other menu options from this location.

I will DEFINITELY be returning here! To start, the customer service is fantastic! The cashier was very sweet and the manager was very personable and fun to talk to. It was my first time going and I think he could tell, we went over some of the menu items, additions I could do, etc. I chose the Ravioli Melt with banana peppers and he gave me a little insider tip about how the ravioli melts into the bread a little and forms little bread pockets, which are better filled with a little extra cheese. The cook inside was very animated and entertaining. As soon as I bit into the sandwich, I thought I was in heaven. The bread was crispy and fresh, the ravioli were incredible and had a fantastic cheese pull, the sauce had the perfect blend of herbs and spices, and the banana peppers added that perfect extra snap to the sandwich. I will definitely be returning to try other sandwiches. Thank you for a fantastic experience!!!!

Nice and interesting staff, great service short wait and not fast food but great food. Thank you for opening in Grimes.

Update
The 3 cheese meatball sandwich is dangerous. I think I could develop an addiction. Warning do not attempt to eat it in the car or with a nice shirt on; you’re gonna get it on you. Sorry no pics cuz I ate it.

Holy cannoli, Mema is an amazing woman.

I’ve waited at least a year to try the meatball sandwich from Mema’s. I’m never in Grimes or available when their food truck is anywhere remotely near to me.

Today, was the day. I ordered, and in five minutes, I was headed out with my order. Their service and friendliness is tops.

I’m in my vehicle. So, knowing there is some red sauce in there, I layer napkins from my chin to my knees, knowing I’m likely to lose a poor meatball without anyone having to sneeze. Then, I pull my hair back, to ensure my best sandwich-devouring performance.

Wow. It is best I don’t live so close or my Mema’s and spandex budget would go through the roof. I’ll be back, so I can check off every sandwich they offer!

Mema’s is a tiny shop with a couple of dozen sandwiches on the menu. We stopped in one recent afternoon, and were greeted by a very friendly, knowledgeable young man who pointed us to the menu on the wall.

My wife and I ordered a “Yo’ Adrian!” (meatballs, ravioli, provolone , and red sauce on a hoagie roll) and a “Heather Marie” (ham, ground Italian sausage, ground beef, peppers, onions, pepperoni, provolone and red sauce, to which we added giardiniera).

The sandwiches were prepared quickly, and perfectly.

Honestly, both sandwiches were flat, out amazing. They were picture perfect, and tasted amazing. The “Yo’ Adrian!” was one of the best meatball subs that I’ve had, and the addition of the ravioli was weirdly perfect. Similarly, the myriad ingredients in the “Heather Marie” mixed together perfectly (with some of the best giardiniera that I’ve had).

I have spent many years haunting little dives in and around Chicagoland, and believe myself to be a better-than-average judge of Italian sandwiches. These were at the top of the stack.

I can’t go back to try the grinder and the Chicago-style beef.

Mema’s is a tiny gem, well worth a visit any time you need a sandwich (and when don’t you need a sandwich?).
