I saw this place and thought I’d give it a shot. Sorry I did! Just wasted $35! My 16 in. pizza was overcooked (dark on bottom). My wife’s shrimp was nearly black. Should have left when we first walked in. The lady walks from the back and greets us with a hello that sounded like you just interrupted me from sitting down (which she was doing). When she asked if I wanted a box for my left-over pizza (which I only ate about 6 small square pieces) I told her I didn’t want it. I told her nicely that it was overcooked. She just rolled her eyes and walked away. Never said sorry. My wife didn’t eat much of her shrimp either. I didn’t even mention to the waitress that the shrimp was nearly burnt. We get to the counter, and I hold out my hand to get the change back (yes, we actually paid with cash) she put the money on the counter, not putting it in my hand that was right in front of her. She never said thank you of course. Needless to say, WE WILL NEVER GO BACK. In fact, they should give me a refund for serving that garbage. I told my wife if I had been by myself, I would have walked out and said I am not paying for this garbage! We were leaving and saw a mother and daughter by their car and asked them what they thought of Mel’s, they said they went there once and never went back. Said the food and service was terrible. I get back to my building and saw a fellow tenant, and she said the same thing. Mel’s you won’t be around much longer!!! And this says it all… we’ve had our parrot for 23 years. We always tell her when we will be home with pizza, and she goes crazy! She loves it as much as we do! We put a few small pieces of the bottom (crust) of the pizza in a napkin to bring back for her. We gave it to her, and she dropped it right away. In other words, she spit it out. In 23 years of eating many pizzas she has never done that. That tells you how bad the pizza was!

Went here twice and both times the quality was consistent. The burgers are above average quality and fairly priced. People are real friendly and patient. I called in an order half way there I noticed I didn’t have my card. The guy there even while seemingly working by himself was real patient with me and helped to figure out payment. My new favorite place to go when I’m in the area. Food was under 15 and was more than enough to fill me up and I tend to eat a lot. Burger came cheesy and juicy with the lettuce, tomato, and onion wrapped on the side so the burger wouldn’t be all wet. Perfect way to do it. Definitely recommend.

I do not understand the good reviews and recommendations for Mel’s. There are far better pizza places in the Elgin area. The only good thing about Mel’s is the pricing and the friendly staff. Their pizza is not great and the inside their establishment is dirty There were dead flies and bugs on the bottom of the fridge that holds the soda, right in plain view for customers to see. Imagine what their kitchen is like. I hesitated to write this negative review for a local business, but I saw a dead roach on the floor while waiting for food. Completely disgusting and I could not eat the pizza I ordered after seeing that. This was my second time having Mel’s and I will never go back.

Great pizza, great price. Had an 18″ thin crust cheese with extra cheese – tasty sauce, quality crust. One of the best pizzas I’ve had in the burbs. Andy took my order and made the pie – thank you for your kindness.
