I had a craving for fish and wanted to try a spot I had heard about down the street from Dorsey High School called Mel’s Fish Shack. I didn’t know what to get, so I got Red Snapper and Salmon with grilled veggies and greens. My wife got a dinner plate that included Salmon, shrimp, fries, and hush puppies. I tried a bit of everything with our spread, and this is my new favorite go-to spot for seafood. I highly recommend this spot to anyone with a taste for perfectly seasoned seafood.

I don’t know what’s up with the last review. But they are definitely opened! Anywho this was my first visit here, found them on google then I was able to place a pickup order through chownow and 20 minutes later I walked in and it was ready the gentlemen that assisted me at the pickup window was nice. I ordered the shrimp and cajun catfish with potato salad and fries with a peach cobbler for dessert. Wow everything was delicious! My fries were a tad bit chilly but other then that I was satisfied with how they cook and fried my fish and shrimp. The peach cobbler was a little small I wish they offered a small and large size but man it was like one of the best peach cobblers I’ve ever had. I will be returning !

My friend and I had heard great things about Mel’s but somehow had never tried it, so we gave it a shot tonight and were not disappointed. The staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. We ordered there and it took a minute to prepare, but it was well worth the wait. The prices are great for the size of the meals and everything we had was delicious and tasted fresh. I’d highly recommend the fried filet of sole and peach cobbler. Do yourself a favor and stop by and grab a great dinner for you and your friends/family.

I love the art on the outside of the building! The most important part is the fish. Personally I get the Mrs. the fishes since I’m veggie tarian, but the food always smells delicious. She tells me that the jumbo shrimp is amazing, and I casually believe her. I eat her fries and I become addicted to the seasonings. All in all it’s a cultural spot that is worth it.

Love the little building. I ordered a 2 piece snapper. My 2 pieces of fish were too small. The fries had no salt on them. I’m going back a couple more times. It was really crowded the day I went.

The fish is delicious! It tastes fresh and they get the food out quickly. This is not a sit down place and parking can be difficult at the wrong times but if you order ahead you can just pick up.

From a blk point of view (out of towner). Nothing had seasoning. So although it smelled good it was not the best or worst…just fried fish. I had fried catfish and shrimp… they put the catfish on top of the fries which made them both soggy.
I wouldn’t come back if I was in the area.

So the place looks like a mom & pop shop. COVID safety signs everywhere and a hand sanitizer on the wall.
I ordered 3 meals:
2 catfish filet lunch combo (2 pieces of fish, 1 side and 2 slices of bread)
1 fish & shrimp combo (2 pieces of fish and from what I can tell 4/5 pieces of shrimp)
Totaling to $41
So catfish, shrimp, red beans and rice, potatoe salad.
Overall consensus the fish and shrimp delicious, great seasoning and cooked crispy. The sides which is why one star was taken was a no bueno. Lacked seasoning! The beans and rice was not the concept of what you think it should be and the potato salad was ok.
