Had the lunch buffet and came away genuinely impressed. Even on a weekday the place was busy. The food looked fresh and was replenished often. The interiors are much nicer than the average Indian restaurant, and the buffet is priced very fairly.

As someone trying to eat less meat, I appreciated the solid vegetarian spread: about five vegetarian dishes, pulav, rice, naan, a couple of salads (the kale salad was excellent), plus soup and a couple of desserts. There were 3 chicken dishes and my wife really liked the butter chicken. The rice pudding was especially good, but easily missed since it’s tucked behind the raita.

Overall it was a very good lunch. Service was okay; we could have been acknowledged a bit sooner and with a bit more warmth. It wasn’t bad, just not quite at the level of the rest of the experience. I’ll definitely be back, and if the service feels different next time I’ll happily update my rating.

I love eating here. The food on the buffet is just delicious, and it’s seasoned so well, and it’s always exotic and interesting. To me this is comfort food. You can’t go wrong with old favorites like tandoori chicken, naan bread, and anything that is labeled Masala, Vindaloo, or Saag. The atmosphere is kind of artsy and relaxing. You can see the ductwork in the ceiling, the tiles, and it’s cool. I love the old Bollywood movies playing the on TV. It’s all like vintage Apu Trilogy stuff, and it’s a delightful distraction between bites. The host Mustafa was very helpful to me, very knowledgeable. He answered all my questions, and he is the perfect guy to interface between the restaurant and the public. Although we live in a time when the cost of eating out is skyrocketing, the prices at Mela remain reasonable. Besides the stellar food, atmosphere, and service, I want to make a plug for this restaurant because they were here for us during the covid lockdowns when things looked so bleak and horrible, and, once again, they opened their doors after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. I’m just glad Mela is here. Enjoy.

We had a great experience at Mela Indian Restaurant in Asheville. Our server, Mustafa, was incredibly sweet, attentive, and kind throughout the entire meal.

The food overall was delicious. There was one dish that just wasn’t our personal preference, and the staff handled it so graciously and professionally. That level of care and customer service really stood out and made us feel taken care of.

We’ll absolutely be back. Great food, warm atmosphere, and genuinely kind service.

We visited Mela Restaurant recently on our trip to Asheville, on entering the restaurant we were promptly seated..the atmosphere of the place was rather dull not so pleasant or welcoming.. there were some seats filled.
The server was very good, service was prompt.. coming to food we ordered chicken chilly as an appetizer and chicken kashmiri entree.. the food i must say was good, we enjoyed the authentic taste of Indian food..
Although the price to quantity ratio was off, it was worth trying once.

My group went for dinner last night because we smelled Indian food down the street and had to follow it! We got all veggie and paneer dishes, everything was great. Big shoutout to our server who recommended some great indian fusion cocktails Only thing we were missing was some music, the atmosphere seemed a little stiff. Thanks guys!

Thank you so much for the great service, Mustafa. The dahl and the most popular street food in India potato appetizer- what’s it called?- were the best light dinner I could ask for. To be real, I went to another Indian restaurant on the other side of town the night before, and had a bad experience. I am pretty easily pleased at a restaurant until I have an exceptional experience. Yeah, Mela! Also, $12 vegetarian entrees on Monday nights! Woo

We went to Mela due to a recommendation from a local shop clerk. We almost did not based on the 4.2 review at that time. We ordered the Pistachio lamb and Lamb chops and they were very good! I believe our servers name was Mustafa and he was pleasant and prompt. The atmosphere was perfect and for what we ordered the value was excellent. I am glad to have received this recommendation and this will be our go to for Indian cuisine.

The Mela lamb curry was my wife’s “ best lamb dish ever”
Naan was hot and delicious
Home made chutney side dish was $3 and a large portion. Better than Major Greys
Blessings to the whole team.
