So far the highlights have been:
Thai jerky is a must try appetizer
Panang & Green curries are both top notch
Their sticky rice desserts are some of the best Thai desserts that I have had.
If you’re a fan of Thai food, you owe it to yourself to check out Mekong River!
I really enjoy Thai food, but some places can make the food too greasy or too sweet – the items I tried at Mekong River seemed right on point. Everyone in my group had the buffet and it’s well worth checking out! For $10 for an all you can eat buffet, you can’t go wrong with that! I was very happy with the massaman curry and there were other options I wasn’t familiar with but also liked. When I get the buffet option at places, I enjoy being able to try some new-to-me food and also having a couple surefire “I know I like that” dishes – I’m glad they didn’t just settle for all the safe, well known things like pad thai (they did have fried rice, but also some dishes I haven’t tasted before). I want to go back and order off the menu, as you can set your desired spice level. The buffet food wasn’t as spicy as I sometimes like, so it’ll be fun to try some of the entrees. If you like tea like me, I was quite happy with their green tea – it was very smooth and never got bitter.
This is a good addition to the neighborhood, and I hope they do well! I will definitely be returning to try more menu items in the future.
five star!! I will be back with my friends next time!! Keep up the great service and excellent food!! Thanks Mike
I was bicycling on Central Avenue there on that stretch between 40th and 41st, a block from The Heights movie theater and the Columbia Heights Library when I saw that Mekong River has smartly set out 2 of their purple tables on the sidewalk where people can dine under their awning. I pulled over and parked my bike. I ordered the beef jerky, strips of beef deep fried, and it came with a side of sticky rice. Also, I had a Thai tea.
It was all very delicious and now that I know I can sit outside there, I will be back in the afternoon and evening.
For anyone who drives a car, there’s a free parking ramp behind the building, you can easily get to, just turn heading west on 41st or 40th and you will see it.
