We come here once a year during the bluebonnet festival. We live around Bastrop and it is just too far to eat here often but we wish we lived closer. Dining at Mei Yuan is the highlight of our trip. I always order my favorite the salt, pepper and jalapeno calamari. His version is the best I have ever had. My husband always orders the magnolia beef. We also like to add vegetable fried rice and the egg rolls. I also ordered something new this time base on Chef Guan’s recommendation which is the lemongrass chicken. The chicken is so tender and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The sauce is unique and a little bit on the sweeter side. I ask for spicy so he added jalapeno. The lemongrass chicken or beef is a new menu item and we like it a lot. The vegetable fried rice is full of different kind of vegetables. The price is very reasonable. All those food cost us $52 include tax. We like to order a lot and enjoy the leftover later. Chef Guan is a very interesting and friendly person. We love to carry conversation with him

Great Chinese food at affordable prices. Chef cuts vegetables and meat to bite-size pieces, it appears that everything is home made.

I had given up on Chinese restaurants in hill country until finding Mei Yuan. The restaurant is located in a converted house that has the kind of character that comes with the life of a restaurant. It has a sort of comfort you would associate with a small-town restaurant whose history has stories that you feel in the walls. Instead of traditional Chinese music, atmosphere was created with 80s Pop and Rock. The owner greeted us offering recommendations before we looked at the menu. Going with teh experience, we went with his suggestions of hot and sour soup and cream cheese Rangoon for starters. I was so taken with how good the appetizers were that I forgot to take a picture for my review. Lemongrass chicken and beef were both some of the best I have had. Meat was tender, vegetables were crisp and fresh, flavor was abundant and distinct. Flavor and texture were not lost in an overcooked wok but raised to a celebration of each distinct part within each dish. Throughout our meal, Quon continued to come out to talk to us telling us about the history of his restaurant and offering his opinions, all steeping in character as distinct as his food. It is apparent that he is passionate about his cooking and his customers. His employees offered great service that spoke to a dedication to Quon and their restaurant. It is the kind of experience that you can only get at a small restaurant that has a personal legacy. I only hope that his behavior described in some less favorable reviews actually happened. If you don’t like Quon or his food, you don’t deserve them. Put Mei Yuan where your mouth is.

Quaint little Chinese restaurant. It is a house renovated for a restaurant. I was happy to see the staff was young local kids. Our server was this young man who couldn’t have been older than 14 who was incredibly polite and helpful.

I don’t get the bad reviews. My boy loves Chinese and one day after church he wanted Chinese and I said we aren’t going to Marble.

I love this place! The food is excellent everytime! They have young workers that have given me better service than almost any adult server I’ve had. You leave a tip you feel good about here! Accidentally came in 30 min before closing (thought they were open later) and he insisted he go ahead and make our order, no problem and was happy to do it! We are frequent customers here, and love it!

My wife and I decided to try Mei Yuan for the first time today. After calling in a to-go order we were told it would be 15-20 minutes. It took us about 25 minutes to get there from our home.

Terrible experience, first and last time there. Service was OK but the food left a whole lot to be desired. Ordered Kung Pao Shrimp and steamed rice. The rice was COLD and undercooked, still a bit crunchy. The sauce by itself of the main dish had an ok flavor but the vegetables were bland and raw and the peanuts were stale. Ended up in the trash. Waste of time and money…..

Good food, the fried rice was delicious, the chicken tasted a bit like lemon, not my favorite, but it was tender and cooked well. My wife got the curry dish. It was awfully watery, almost like soup. Mainly green onions and bamboo.
