Mei Yuan Food Truck is absolutely one of the best restaurants in this area! … Is this the same owner from the Burnet location that closed?

Great Chinese food at affordable prices. Chef cuts vegetables and meat to bite-size pieces, it appears that everything is home made.

You are getting Chinese food that’s the real deal. The food is so good you end up eating it all. Try the hot and sour soup and be sure to order a quart to take home, it’s fantastic.

Menu prices are very reasonable. Large portion size. Staff is friendly and polite. Definitely a crowd pleaser. We witnessed several regular’s who the staff knew and didn’t need a menu to order from.

You might miss the restaurant when you drive by so pay attention. It’s an old yellow house that was converted into the restaurant. Hope you enjoy!

We come here once a year during the bluebonnet festival. We live around Bastrop and it is just too far to eat here often but we wish we lived closer. Dining at Mei Yuan is the highlight of our trip. I always order my favorite the salt, pepper and jalapeno calamari. His version is the best I have ever had. My husband always orders the magnolia beef. We also like to add vegetable fried rice and the egg rolls. I also ordered something new this time base on Chef Guan’s recommendation which is the lemongrass chicken. The chicken is so tender and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The sauce is unique and a little bit on the sweeter side. I ask for spicy so he added jalapeno. The lemongrass chicken or beef is a new menu item and we like it a lot. The vegetable fried rice is full of different kind of vegetables. The price is very reasonable. All those food cost us $52 include tax. We like to order a lot and enjoy the leftover later. Chef Guan is a very interesting and friendly person. We love to carry conversation with him

Quaint little Chinese restaurant. It is a house renovated for a restaurant. I was happy to see the staff was young local kids. Our server was this young man who couldn’t have been older than 14 who was incredibly polite and helpful.
I ordered the cream cheese Rangoon a which were absolutely delicious. They were nice and golden crispy with a hot creamy, cream cheese center. I also ordered the Twice Cooked Pork. The plate was a large portion with plenty of snap peas and mushrooms. The pork however was a bit dried out which can be somewhat expected. It’s hard to get juicy pork with that dish. The place appeared clean and well tended to.

My husband went inside to get my order he said the young man was really nice and the inside was clean. I ordered the chicken fried rice. I did appreciate they had a good amount of chicken and it was huge, too bad it was undercooked. I have had better.

I had given up on Chinese restaurants in hill country until finding Mei Yuan. The restaurant is located in a converted house that has the kind of character that comes with the life of a restaurant. It has a sort of comfort you would associate with a small-town restaurant whose history has stories that you feel in the walls. Instead of traditional Chinese music, atmosphere was created with 80s Pop and Rock. The owner greeted us offering recommendations before we looked at the menu. Going with teh experience, we went with his suggestions of hot and sour soup and cream cheese Rangoon for starters. I was so taken with how good the appetizers were that I forgot to take a picture for my review. Lemongrass chicken and beef were both some of the best I have had. Meat was tender, vegetables were crisp and fresh, flavor was abundant and distinct. Flavor and texture were not lost in an overcooked wok but raised to a celebration of each distinct part within each dish. Throughout our meal, Quon continued to come out to talk to us telling us about the history of his restaurant and offering his opinions, all steeping in character as distinct as his food. It is apparent that he is passionate about his cooking and his customers. His employees offered great service that spoke to a dedication to Quon and their restaurant. It is the kind of experience that you can only get at a small restaurant that has a personal legacy. I only hope that his behavior described in some less favorable reviews actually happened. If you don’t like Quon or his food, you don’t deserve them. Put Mei Yuan where your mouth is.

Good food, the fried rice was delicious, the chicken tasted a bit like lemon, not my favorite, but it was tender and cooked well. My wife got the curry dish. It was awfully watery, almost like soup. Mainly green onions and bamboo.

My one complaint is that their Facebook page says that their lunch menu runs till 2:30. We got there at 2:17 and we didn’t give us the lunch menu even when I pointed that their lunch hour wasn’t over yet to the waitress. She said it ended at 2 PM. I would hope that if you state something on your website and your customer pointed it out that you would honor it but that wasn’t the case, unfortunately.

Mmmmmm…..this is the only Chinese food place I have found that makes BBQ Pork fried rice! He makes it perfect, and I take a second order to go when we come here. The food is always wokked fresh to order…I also love a side order of their giant crab rangoon and I love the curry beef. If you enjoy authentic Chinese foot with a bit of a Texas kick, give them a try. We drive out here from Georgetown area when we can.
