Medo started out as an idea to bring the wonders of Japanese Cuisine to the town of Woodstock. After closing for a brief time in 2025, Medo 2.0 (as we call it) emerged. Starting in January of 2026 Maximian Glausen took over as the Executive Chef of the restaurant. Max developed an abiding love for Asian cuisine as a teenager and after graduating from the Culinary Institute he received a scholarship from the Japanese government to do a 6 month internship at the legendary Sushi restaurant Ginza Sushi-Ko Honten.Woodstock local David Fletcher who founded Medo once upon a time, and partner Ari Alonso who championed Medo’s reopening look forward to hosting you!

We had a great experience at Medo! The servers were incredibly nice and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. They were very accommodating, and even though the restaurant recently reopened, everything felt smooth and well-run. We learned they’re in the process of getting their liquor license, which is exciting, and as a bonus, they have electric car chargers conveniently located right in front. Can’t wait to come back again soon!

We have been coming to Medo for about a year and a half. Have never found any place to beat it. Soup to nuts it’s always been incredible. We waited with them through the ownership changeover and returning was like we never skipped a beat. Recently a new chef was hired, most of the old crew is recently gone, the food tonight was so disappointing. Looked beautiful! Taste not so much. Half the sushi menu is gone or modified. My love for Medo is gone. Along with my favorite Sweetheart Roll

Medo was easily our favorite sushi spot. Everything about it from the quality of the fish to the cozy and elegant vibe made it feel special every time. The miso soup, sashimi, hand rolls, and hot tea were always perfect.
We were sad to hear they closed this weekend. Thank you to the team for consistently delivering such great food and warm service. You created something memorable and we’ll truly miss it.
Wishing everyone behind Medo the very best.

We had the two omakase’s and both were great. My wife had just enough with the small one and my large one had all that plus some amazing Japanese fish. Also had the Japanese Uni melt in your mouth! Sat at the sushi bar and chatted with Kevin about all things sushi.

Excellent food and service, great presentation and a cozy environment. The mixologist is always on point. Nice Atmosphere. It can be tricky getting seating on busy nights so a reservation is recommended. The owners are good folk and community minded. Nice experience and streamlined takes on Japanese cuisine. There are not many restaurants quite like this on this side of the river. Enjoy.

Honestly some of the best sushi I’ve had in New York State. The mood is relaxed but sexy. The signature cocktails are thoughtful and delicious. And the hot kitchen food is great. Also includes non-fish dishes for those who don’t eat fish. Highly recommend the black miso cod and the sweetheart roll. Not to mention the desserts. But the real thing that stands out is the artistry and care that goes into every aspect of the experience. A real upstate gem here.

I really did not want to go and leave a review, as it was clear the (lone) server was doing everything possible to ensure a smooth experience. I went to Medo for the first time several years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it, and was surprised to learn upon my return that the restaurant had changed ownership. Unfortunately, this change was certainly for the worse. Several extremely good small plates were no longer available, and the quality of what was available seems to have fallen, while prices seem to have risen. I spent almost double what I spent the first time for fairly similar items, and my SO ended up having such a severe stomach reaction that she had to go to the hospital.

Dan is our guy. Always greets us. I discovered this wonderful place a year ago and no matter where I go for sushi it’s never good enough. Medo is top notch. The drinks, food, ambiance and staff. It’s just perfect.

Not only is this sushi spot absolutely beautiful, but the service was also incredibly quick. We ordered online for takeout and were so impressed with how neatly everything was packed—nothing spilled and all the essentials were included. I tried a couple of vegetable rolls (avocado & cucumber and sweet potato tempura) and they were both fresh and delicious. The miso soup was amazing, too! My friends ordered the Woodstock roll and couldn’t stop raving about it. Overall, excellent food, thoughtful presentation, and a great experience. Highly recommend!
