Medium Rare does one thing (steak frites) and they do it right. For a great price, the restaurant provides an awesome- double entree portion- steak frites and had some awesome dessert. If you’re in the mood for steak frites on a budget, this is the place to go. But seriously, they only serve steak frites and will give you two servings of the plate in the picture. Their house sauce is also phenomenal.

An amazing dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious. The steak was seasoned perfectly, it needed no sauce whatsoever. The fries were genuinely incredible, so crispy and salty. The service was great too! For dessert, we got the ice cream sundae and it was so dun and delicious. Such a wonderful evening!!

I love this place! Great steak and fries as well as delicious salad and bread. The service is also consistently excellent. Today I ordered a door dash pick up which was accidentally sent to the DC location. The Bethesda manager was super helpful and accommodating and they actually helped me out and switched the order! Love this place and will definitely be back!!!!

Extremely well cooked and flavorful steak. Had to have the second helping, of course. The sauce adds a great touch to both the meat and the frites. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes steak frites to visit.

I went here with a friend shortly after COVID restrictions were lifted, and people were eager to return to business as usual at restaurants and social outings. Previously, we had eaten outside here during the pandemic and the staff had been very grateful to have customers. I believe there was a female owner or manager and she was very involved in making sure we were happy with the food and service during our initial visit, when it was rare for people to risk visiting a restaurant.

After most COVID restrictions were lifted and people returned to restaurants, we went back to Medium Rare and ordered the bottomless mimosas with our brunch. There was a 2 hour time limit, which I think we were vaguely aware of, but after some slow initial service, we were left in peace to eat and drink. Our waiter kind of disappeared and the restaurant was pretty busy, so this friend and I were just hanging out, having a good time and in no particular rush, since we had been left to our own devices.

All of a sudden, the same woman who had been so accommodating to us on our last visit, came storming up to our table to berate us for not wrapping it up sooner. She launched into a tirade on the two hour time limit, not allowing us a word in edgewise. Not that I would have been able to rebut in that exact moment, after several mimosas and having just been unceremoniously jarred out of a relaxed, chill state. It was total whiplash.

I suspect what happened was that our waiter was overwhelmed with tables and when questioned by his manager (I believe this was the woman who confronted us) threw the blame on us for not bringing our check out sooner when the two hour time limit was up – I personally don’t think that should be the customer’s responsibility to set a timer themselves…but even so, if they were expecting us to do so, they could have at least told us that was their preference and at the VERY least, approached us without raised voices.

Anyway, I just randomly think about this interaction sometimes and get a bit annoyed at the way we were treated here. I wish I had stood up for myself more in the moment. I haven’t been back to Medium Rare since, nor do I ever wish to return.

The food and drinks were good from what I recall, but the service on that second visit left its mark, in a really unfortunate way.

The server Ever and Chris made our night so special. A good friend turned 21 tonight and they gave us a wonderful experience with great food and service. They even helped us blow up the birthday balloons to rush for our birthday friend’s arrival. 10/10 service, food, and experience!!

Went on a Thursday night around 8:30. My wife walked in and was able to be seated but had some trouble getting a server. When I went to the front I was immediately accommodated with a server where we chose to sit outside as we didn’t like where we were seated within the dining room. The menu is a pre fixed menu with bread coming out first, a small salad and then rib eye steak I belive and fries.
The food was very good, the bread is just bread so if that’s your thing you’ll love it. The salad was very small but the dressing they used was so good, I think it had a hint of horseradish or grey poupon mustard. The steak was over cooked for me but I think they got it right for my wife, we both requested our steaks to ve done to medium. The first round of steaks was okay, whatever sauce they give you for it is absolutely divine. The fries are just regular shoe string fries, either you like them or you don’t. We initially thought the portions were too small and it wasn’t worth the price of admission but we were pleasantly surprised to get a second course of steak and fries included in the price which immediately shot up the value of the meal. The second round of steaks was cooked much better and had more flavor. The wine in the picture was really good, so good me and my wife went to look for it over the weekend at total wine. Overall it Medium Rare is a very good place to eat if you just want a simple meal of steak and fries.

Good amount of food for the price. It’s a prefixed menu. Bread, salad, steak, and fries.

I asked for my sauce on the side, which I think was a good move. I liked the flavor but it has kind of a floury/grainy texture. Some people loved it. It just wasn’t my style.

The salad was very good and the fries were fresh.

We ordered chocolate cake to go and it was delicious! Highly recommend, if you’re a chocolate lover.

The service was great at this restaurant. Every table was filled. Lots of families. Easy parking at the garage nearby. Garage parking is free on Sundays.

I ordered takeout from Medium Rare and I genuinely do not understand the hype around this place. First of all, the price. Somehow they’ve managed to charge premium steakhouse prices for what feels like the culinary equivalent of “we found this cut on sale.” It’s basically a cheap cut of steak and some fries, yet the bill shows up like you just dined at a luxury steakhouse. I checked the bag twice thinking maybe they accidentally included a gold bar.

The restaurant itself is also unbelievably tiny. Calling it “cozy” would be generous. It’s more like someone decided to open a steakhouse inside a walk-in closet. I’ve seen larger airport bathrooms. And it’s loud. Not “fun lively bistro” loud – more like “everyone in a small metal box yelling about steak” loud.

I ordered to go and somehow they still managed to mess up my order. They forgot the bread, which is supposed to come with the meal. Bread is like … the easiest part. It literally just sits there waiting to be given to someone. The fries are also cut so thin they’re basically potato shoelaces. If a regular fry is a pencil, these are mechanical pencil lead. Blink and you might lose one.

And the famous “special sauce”? I was expecting something mysterious and legendary. Turns out it mostly tastes like peanut sauce that wandered into the wrong restaurant.

So to recap: overpriced steak, microscopic restaurant, noise level comparable to a jet engine, missing bread, fries the width of dental floss, and a “special sauce” that seems confused about what cuisine it belongs to.

Do not go. Save your money and your eardrums.

Came in for brunch for the very first time, greeted by the hostess and Cameron the manager on duty. We felt to welcomed by them. food came out fast we had the steaks and eggs and it was so good. drinks were amazing. We had kids with us and hostess provided us some crayons and the kids had so much fun just drawing on the table paper.
Absolutely coming back. We loved every single detail of our experience
