A quaint Bohemian designed cafe in the middle of State Street. The service is quick and you are greeted with a smile. We ordered the Chicken Shwarma plate served with a delectable yellow rice, hummus, a traditional Greek style salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, and topped with Feta. We also tried a bowl of the Lentil soup served with rice. It’s affordable food and seasoned well. The personal choices such as the dressing for the salad had too much vinegar or the preparation of the chicken was not as seasoned and served in thick slices more as a roasted chicken were insignificant because the food is truly home cooked and delectable.
The best dish, that warm bowl of whole lentil soup made with a blend of spices over rice was comforting on a cold chilly day.
This restaurant is a hidden gem in the busy State Street row of restaurants and shops. t’s restaurants like these who continue to serve their version of home-cooked food that is welcoming and very much appreciated.

We walked in here because State Street Brats had a line. We lucked out and got better food than we would have had at SSB. This is an Algerian Med Restaurant so the food tastes different than Greek Food. We both had the Schwarma Plate and it was filling. In fact, it kept us full for 7 hours until after the Badgers game. We had the lamb/beef and the chicken. The lamb/beef was better and moister. The chicken was a bit on the drier side. It came with rice, hummus and salad. We got a lot of food for $14/plate. The restaurant is cozy but we had no problem finding a table. The staff was very helpful in suggesting the food options. My only recommendation would be for the cook to fry up the Gyro meat to give it some crispiness. Overall, this is a great restaurant!!!

Additionally, the prices are very reasonable for the abundant portions

Got the chicken shawarma plate for $13. Everything was good except that they had really big chicken pieces they could have done it with bite sized pieces. The chicken had almost no marination so it tasted bland. Salad was good. But Feta cheese on the salad didn’t quite fit for the essence the dish had overall. It was a nice experience though as the dine in Ambience was great.

Heard so much about Mediterranean Cafe and finally decided to try it and LOVED IT!! State street has a hidden gem. You all need to stop what you are doing and head to Med Cafe today.

restaurant serving Algerian food. The food here is delicious, has an authentic taste, and served quickly. You will go back here again after you have tried it once. We tried the chicken shawarma plate and chicken sandwich. The shawarma plate is served with rice, salad, hummus, and pita. The portion size is huge and I really thought I wouldn’t finish it. Once I started eating, I couldn’t stop and my plate was empty before you know it. The chicken and salad was so flavorful . The rice that accompanied it was also so well prepared. The chicken sandwich was also huge and so delicious.
I cannot wait to go back there and try other things off their menu. Thank you to the person at the ordering station who recommended the shawarma plate to me, so so good!

Absolutely adorable spot! Really really enjoyed the chicken wrap and it really left me feeling satisfied! Also, the staff here are so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend stopping by!

A State Street classic! Best Mediterranean food in the area. Used to eat here multiple times a week when in college. Happy to see years later they are still here and the food is just as amazing! Try the chicken apricot pie. You will not be disappointed. Finish it off with a piece of baklava.

Come for the food, stay for the ambiance and friendly staff. Excellent Algerian tea, fresh soft pita, tasty hummus all served in large quantities. Extremely quick service. They only take cash or check.
