We ate at the Mecca on a rainy Sunday morning and had the most delicious, warm, comforting breakfast. We started with bloody Mary’s that were loaded with goodies, then corned-beef hash and country ham, and finally our waitress surprised us with complementary shrimp and grits. It was hands-down the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. Flavorful and hearty, plus the cheese pull was out of this world. The atmosphere was so cozy and classic; picture perfect for a rainy day. We can’t wait to come back next time we’re in Raleigh!

The food was phenomenal! I enjoyed some grits, country ham, bacon, a biscuit and eggs over hard. My husband had a breakfast burger. The food was out pretty quick and there was no wait at all to be seated which was great. Our waitress was friendly and refilled drinks before we ever had to ask.

Went there for brunch and it was very good. Cozy place with very traditional menu. Service was great, and food came out quick. Portions were good and price was great too. I would go there again. We tried omelet, French toast and their hot plates. Coffee wasn’t the best though, hopefully they change their blend.

Disappointed in this place. Had high hopes for this place. Had a few people tell me this was the place to go.
We ordered onion rings, took good 30 minutes before came to us,
I get it. They were short handed and the guy was doing everything but never check on us or told us how much longer our food will be.
Our food came out about 10 to 15 minutes later. Her breaded fish was cold and creep her out that there was skin still on the fish. Her rice was cold and was barely any cole sław. There was more batter then fish.
The Hawaiian chicken: took them about 15 to 20 minutes to tell me that they had no pinneapple. They seem to have ran out of a lot of stuff. We came little before noon.
Pecan pie was warm, wasn’t expecting that. Was almost melted well trying to eat it.
I did love the feel of the restaurant. Seeing all the different knick knack on the walls, beautiful lights.

The pancakes were good. Ordered sausage as well, both the link and patty. I liked the patty better. French toast is more like a bread casserole, rather than slices, but was very good. It comes with spinach and fruit on the side. Ordered scrambled eggs and they were overcooked, but not terrible. I wish the meal came with the meat and eggs as part of the dish instead of having to order separately. Prices were very reasonable. Great atmosphere.

We had reservations for the holiday dinner. The pumpkin bisque was really great. We shared the pork chop and the pot roast meals. Excellent—both so tender and flavorful. We got dessert to go as we were full. Happy to support Urban Ministries.

Service was terrible. Food average to mediocre. Ordered biscuits and gravy but wasn’t told until wife’s order was brought out they were out of biscuits. Reordered an omelet. Wife was done eating when they brought an omelet with no hash browns and no coffee. Asked for the hash browns and waitress left to get them. Waited for waitress to bring hashbrowns while omelet got cold. Finally got up to leave, didn’t eat the omelet, and passed waitress on the way out and she had hash browns with no coffee. Wife went to pay and waitress had the nerve to try and charge for both meals.
Won’t be back.
