My flight was delayed for hours. Disappointing. But the silver lining is that it gave me time to try Meat Mitch BBQ at the Kansas City Airport.

First off – two positives. Service is surprisingly fast (which is important at an airport). And the burnt ends had good flavor and texture. They could’ve been a little warmer but I’ll not quibble about that. This was the best barbecue I’ve had – at an airport. The baked beans were really good. Full of meat. The slaw was fine. Nothing special. The curly fries (which I didn’t order; they mistakenly added them to my platter) weren’t great. But my server was pleasant and attentive.

We were seated and served quick! We love their potato salad. The smash burger was amazing. Awesome severs!! The beans were good. This is our go to place at the Airport. They carry Boulevard Brewing Company beer! Our favorite place.

Not impressed. The Mac and Cheese is swimming in liquid. The brisket sandwich is so soggy it can’t be eaten as a sandwich.

I chose the 2 meat with burnt ends, pulled pork, coleslaw, and the mac&cheese.

Fast service, good variety of barbecue sauces (i.e. heat, tangy, and og), the brisket burnt ends were the best, the pulled pork was a little dry and underseasoned, and luke warm. The coleslaw was fine but needed more acid and I like it with heat (I would add horseradish). The mac&cheese was not warm, so the cheese sauce was making the noodles clump together, and it was underseasoned.

I’m grading here on a curve based on my experience with airport food, so I’d still give it a 4/5. The burnt ends and the sauces really were exceptional. Overall, if I’d chosen a different side than the mac&cheese and maybe went with the potato salad, it probably would’ve been a better selection.

I will eat here again.

First time eating this barbecue and it was very tasty. I also had the Smashburger with no bun… Keto. The burger had excellent flavor however, the two patties were very very small. That was the only disappointing thing besides the price you pay but I chalk that up to just being at the airport and paying higher prices.

When I travel, I usually eat something light like a Caesar salad, but could not pass up Mitch Meats! The half rack of St. Louis style ribs was absolutely amazing and falling off the bone! Some of the best ribs I’ve ever eaten! Not something that you would expect in an airport! Great service and great atmosphere!

Surprisingly, they have an amazing vegan option. We walked all around the airport looking for something filling and somewhat affordable and saw that they have what looked to be a filling salad with apples and lots of vegetables. Some of the BBQ sauces are also vegan- they sell the BBQ sauces near the front with the labels, so you can double check ingredients. The staff was very accommodating and I don’t think they get many vegans, but it was very nice to have some healthy fare.

10/10 would not wait a minute more for Meat Mitch Barbeque.

TLDR: We left Meat Mitch’s Barbecue after being ignored for 25 minutes by a slow-moving, inattentive hostess who prioritized a single-serve takeout order over seating us, or taking our order. We were excited to try the BBQ but were disappointed by the poor service. We then went to Martin City Brewing Company and had a great experience with quick service and great food!

Full Rant:
The hostess/waitress took 5 minutes to acknowledge our presence before seating us, shuffling around the restaurant doing just enough movement to extricate herself from taking our orders.

She then took a walk-in / take-out order for some busybody boomer who was in a hurry (most likely to avoid the hassle of waiting on the waitress I guess). We sat for about 20 minutes, the boomer got her take-out order.

The waitress ignored us for another 5 minutes and we decided to leave.

Overall I was really hoping to try the place because my family and I have seen it a few times and decided to give it a try. Welove BBQ but unfortunately the hostess and the staff were either too unmotivated, too understaffed, or too unqualified to help us out with our anticipated culinary adventure.

Good thing the folks over at Martin City Brewing Company know how to balance bustle, hustle, and brews! We were seated and orders taken, and delivered within the amount of time it was taken to write this review (about 20 minutes total).

P.S. I rarely write reviews, and am pretty used to sub-par service, but this one warranted the forewarning. If your store hours are listed from 11am to 10pm, you should put a disclaimer up saying you’ll start shying from service by 7.
