Smells delicious just getting out of the car. Friendly staff, upbeat atmosphere, and simple menu. If you are in a hurry, I would advise calling your order in ahead of time as the wait for one person was 30min today. That being said, yummy! Plenty of leftovers so the price is logical… plus I’m not getting up at 3am to start a smoker.

Went here for lunch with my sister on opening day. The BBQ was great as well as the coleslaw and beans. The macaroni and cheese wasn’t the best in my opinion but overall everything was really good! Owner and staff were all friendly and service was great. The food served up fast and hot. Nice atmosphere inside too, kinda like an old tavern or bar. I’ll definitely be back!

Very friendly staff, vibe is good for a BBQ place, but the benches at the booths are hard and uncomfortable.
We got the pork ribs, mac and cheese, loaded baked potato (bacon), and coleslaw. The ribs were EXCELLENT – very tender, very flavorful, absolutely great. The mac and cheese was dry and without much flavor. The baked potato was also dry. The coleslaw was decent, but certainly not memorable.
I’d come back and only sample all the meats – the sides were all disappointing.

I tried the pulled pork sandwich and a side of coleslaw. It was great! I can’t wait to two the beef ribs plate.
They said they rotate in tri-tip or brisket on occasion.

When Cat was working at another restaurant, I would go out of my way to order specifically from her — she has an incredible instinct for putting together a dish. That same level of care and intention shows up in every plate here.
Portion sizes are perfect, and it’s honestly hard to pick a standout dish because everything is excellent. The flavors are clean, balanced, and deeply satisfying — you can taste the quality of the ingredients and the care put into the cooking. You always leave full and happy, never feeling heavy or “off.”
Zach absolutely knows how to barbecue. Beyond his talent outside the restaurant, he consistently puts out high-quality, perfectly cooked meats that speak for themselves.
This place is the real deal — run by people who genuinely care about what they’re serving and the experience they’re giving. I can’t recommend it enough.

The clam chowder bread bowl was so tasty! the melted cheese and seasonings on the outside of the bread made every bite delicious!
My husband had The armadillo eggs, those were so flavorful and thick! Even our kids enjoyed the Mac n cheese and they had toys and coloring books available to help entertain the kids.

There were 15 of us bikers. We try BBQ places all over the US. This is one of the best places we have found. The food was awesome. The people were awesome and really appreciated us coming in. They handled our large group better than any other place we’ve been.
I lived in TX for 20 of the last 25yrs. This place is as good as the best TX BBQ.

Food, you won’t find better in 100 miles. Service, people who really care about you and try hard to make sure you’re good. The atmosphere, everything you’d expect from a mountain bar and bbq mixed with a dash of kid friendly and funny decor.
This place is a gem, don’t miss the opportunity to stop here if you pass through on a mountain adventure with the family.

If flavor and friendly faces are your top priorities, Mean Lew’s is a decent spot. The barbecue is tasty, but just know you’re going to feel like the meal is pretty overpriced for how little you get. I’d say check it out for a quick, high-quality bite if you don’t mind dropping extra cash, but if you’re looking for a proper, filling BBQ feast, you’d expect a much bigger plate for the money.
I went with the St. Louis Ribs, which comes with two sides. For $23, I got 3 ribs and maybe half a cup of each side. Don’t get me wrong, the ribs were smoky and tender, and the sides tasted great, but the portion was seriously skimpy for that price tag.
Edit: I always appreciate when owners take the time to respond to reviews; it demonstrates a true commitment to their customers. I will certainly be returning to Mean Lew’s. It’s definitely good BBQ.
