We started with sushi rolls — the rolls I got were fresh, nicely presented and tasted clean; good balance between rice, fish, and flavor without being overloaded. Then we tried the hibachi: a filet‑mignon and shrimp combo with fried rice and veggies. The steak was tender and cooked just right, and shrimp + sides rounded things out well. Portions were generous — I left feeling satisfied without being overly stuffed.
One fun detail: the place has a sort of “quirky charm” — including a little robot server that brings plates and drinks to tables. It’s not super fancy or pretentious, but that small touch of novelty adds a bit of personality to the night. Service was mostly friendly and reasonably quick, though when it got busy there was a little wait. Still, nothing annoying — just the kind of small delay you expect on a full night.
To me, MeAkan hits a sweet spot: reliable Japanese‑style eats (both sushi and cooked dishes), a casual, easygoing environment, and a little fun on the side. It’s not high‑end, but that’s part of its charm. If you want a simple night out with good sushi or hibachi — maybe with friends or family — this place works solidly. I’d go back.
Small things mean a lot to me, so this was nicer than I’d ever expected. I’ll check the hours more closely when I order online at local restaurants! If you read this, thank you for both the amazing sick day food (I’ve been sick all week!), and for kindly staying the extra 15-20 minutes over my order!
The food is outstanding. We had steak, chicken, shrimp, and filet mignon, fried rice, and every single item was delicious. Even the vegetables and the soup were excellent, which says a lot. The only downside, and it’s minor, was the salad. It was simply a bowl of lettuce with dressing, nothing special. That’s the only negative thing I can say about our visit.
Everything else was fantastic. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is comfortable, and it’s clear the people running this place truly care about their customers.
I consider myself a Japanese restaurant connoisseur. I’ve eaten at dozens of Japanese restaurants across the U.S., and it’s my favorite type of food. Mekan is easily one of the best, if not the best, when it comes to overall taste, value, and customer care.
Highly recommend.
I sat at the sushi bar. I ordered the rainbow and TNT rolls. Gabby was very attentive and nice as my server. The Itamae was quick and made great looking rolls! The fish was nicely cut (no big chunks of meat). The TNT roll had a great spicy mayo on it. Not too much mayo in the sauce. Ponzu sauce was good to have on the rainbow roll. The Itamae layered the rainbow rolls avocado perfectly to ensure each cut piece has a little it in (this is rare when I order the rainbow roll. I get one 90% of the time I go to get sushi!) The rice was nicely cooked, not too sticky. The appetizer was a nice bonus as well! I might be back tomorrow to try another roll! I would definitely recommend this place for sushi!
