We were lucky they fit us in for 2 people . There were no more searing after 7 pm . Me wah is a high end Chinese restaurant. Excellent service. We had the crayfish Wo Bah ( crispy basket with lightly sauced crayfish and Mushroom) , abalone Lo mein( nice chewy noodles , slightly too salty , and the Tasmanian scallops with mushroom and ginger ( lovely flavor).
The food is delicately flavored and savory .
There are banquet menu worth trying .

I did see a huge lobster dish and it
Looked delicious .

Better than most Chinese restaurants in Sydney. The service was the best I’ve experienced at a Chinese restaurant since I came to Australia. But I would only recommend dining in.

Staff were fine, I guess. To start with, I’ll assume I’m either too poor or uncivilized or both to understand high-end dining. Nevertheless, for the money spent–about $400 (about 200 for each person)–I’d expect an actual serving of food, but it’s a high-end restaurant…. for $400 for two people, i expect something greater than a banquet–the SIGNATURE menu selection, not “free samples”, but….it’s a fine dining…. For $400, I expect the perfect blend of seasoning and flavour showcasing an absolute masterclass in cooking by a skilled chef, but instead…. the food we received was more than oversalted, drowned in sauces whose flavour seemed only serve the purpose of hiding whatever i was hoping to actually taste. But…. it’s fine dining I guess. And I understand explaining the different elements of dishes upon providing them, but if that description’s on the menu, just tell me the name and let the dish tell me the rest, but i get it, I think… Fine dining. If the food tasted like $400, I’d not write this review despite the quantity of food leading me wanting to have bowl of Chex cereal to fill the cavity left by the lack of food. But I guess i dont understand.

We dined at Me Wah Hobart expecting a premium experience given its reputation and pricing. Unfortunately, it was the worst service we’ve received in a long time.

When we asked our waiter what the specials were, he simply pointed at the menu and told us that most of the dishes would be “too Chinese” for us and suggested we should order sweet and sour pork instead. The comment felt dismissive and frankly insulting. We are always happy to pay top dollar for quality food and service, and we were there to explore the menu, not to be stereotyped.

The food was equally disappointing. The chicken dish we ordered was so dry it was difficult to chew.

Service throughout the evening was disorganised. After we had already placed our order, another waiter approached and attempted to give us menus again. No one returned to check on the table. When we were ready to leave, we had to stand up and go to the counter to pay because no staff came over.

For a restaurant that claims high service standards and charges premium prices, the experience fell well short. It lacked attentiveness, professionalism, and basic courtesy.

We won’t be returning.

Mewah in Hobart truly lives up to its name, offering a luxurious and refined dining experience. The atmosphere is elegant and sophisticated, with beautifully designed interiors that create a calm and welcoming setting, perfect for a special occasion or a relaxed yet upscale meal.

The food is exceptional — thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. Each dish highlights high-quality ingredients and careful attention to detail, making the dining experience feel premium and memorable. The menu offers a wonderful balance of creativity and comfort, with every plate feeling well considered.

The service was impeccable. The staff were professional, attentive, and genuinely warm, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish without feeling rushed. Their attention to detail elevated the overall experience.

Overall, Mewah is a standout restaurant in Hobart, delivering excellent food, refined ambience, and outstanding service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a truly mewah dining experience.

The entrance of Mei Wah Lou, with its silver doors and stone lions, felt formal and a bit intimidating. Inside, the atmosphere was quiet, with few patrons—some Cantonese-speaking, others local. The service was attentive, with staff promptly serving tea.

We ordered four main dishes(nearly 150 bucks), but the portions were small. The dry-fried noodles with vegetables were bland and seemed carelessly prepared. During the meal, there was a loud noise from the kitchen, hinting at some staff communication issues.

I found the restaurant through an airport ad, but the experience fell short of expectations. Mei Wah Lou, despite its awards, seems to be resting on its laurels. They should focus on improving the food quality and creating a more welcoming atmosphere to stay competitive.

This place has gone downhill in recent years. Ordered takeaway and the meat in my main was overcooked and dry. The less said about the accompanying sauce the better, the vegetable spring rolls were atrocious and the pork dim sims were 80% batter. Mee Wah used to have the best Chinese food in the south of the state but not anymore. Disappointed.
